The other huge change this year comes in the camera department. Google added an extra camera to the back where it belonged, and removed the second front camera that no one needed, used, or asked for.

The Google Pixel 4 and Pixel 4 XL now have dual rear cameras. The same extremely powerful and capable 12.2 UltraPixel sensor from previous years, with a fast f/1.7 aperture, OIS, and extremely powerful software that does some amazing things.

Additionally, you now have a secondary 16MP Telephoto zoom lens on the Pixel 4 and 4 XL that does cool stuff, can zoom in crazy far and gives Google's software prowess more information to crunch which allows for stunning photography. On top of that, this year Google introduced live HDR+ mode, astrophotography controls that are stunning for a handheld phone (instead of a DSLR and a tripod) and several other changes.

The Pixel 3 still takes great photos, arguably better than almost any other phone on the market aside from maybe the iPhone 11 Pro, and it'll get several of the Pixel 4 software features.

That said, software can't make up for some of the physical information Google's 2nd camera gathers. Not to mention there's actually a third "camera" in a sense, on the Pixel 4, called a Spectral sensor that helps Google's software do its magic. This isn't available on the Pixel 3.

If photography is important to you, the Pixel 4 is the best phone you can buy.
