How to Evolve Eevee into Glaceon or Leafeon in Pokémon Go

Published

on

This quick guide explains how to evolve Eevee into Glaceon or Leafeon in Pokémon Go. Additionally, these steps work for all the newly announced Lure Module evolutions including Magnezone, Probopass and potentially more.

After months of waiting Niantic finally released an all-new way to evolve Eevee into two more of the final three evolutions. And while you can still use the naming trick like the regular forms, you can do more than one (like a shiny) using a new Lure module. These are the Mossy Lure and Glacial Lure released on May 17th, 2019. Here’s how to get a new lure, use it, and how to get both Glaceon and Leafeon.

How to Evolve Eevee into Glaceon or Leafeon

  • Buy or earn a Mossy Lure or Glacial Lure (in the shop or from research tasks)
  • Use the Lure on a nearby Pokestop in Pokémon Go, then Spin the Stop
  • Catch or Navigate to an Eevee in your Pokémon list and then hit the Evolve button (only if you see the lure icon to the right of the button)

If you’re not close enough to the Mossy or Glacial lured Pokestop you will not get the right evolve button, and will not get Glaceon. We also found that you have to lure the stop AND spin it first before the evolve button ignites. And yes, you can do evolutions from someone else’s lure. Here’s what to look for.

As you can see above, the process is slightly different from previous generations, evolutions, and everything else we’re familiar with in Pokémon GO. Keep in mind that you yourself don’t have to buy or pop the lure, anyone can. As long as you’re close enough to a lured stop that used one of these new lures, go ahead and try some evolutions. More information about these new lure models is available at the always-helpful PokemonGoHub.

How to Get Mossy Lure and Glacial Lures in Pokémon GO

For now, it looks like the only way to get one of these new lure modules in the game is to buy or from the shop for 200 coins. However, in the near future, Niantic will let players earn a Mossy Lure, Glacial Lure and Magnetic Lure by completing research tasks, spinning Pokestops, and maybe even from PvP battles.

If you’re a free-to-play player that doesn’t want to spend money for a lure, you have a few options. For one, you can wait until later this year to earn these lures. Or, simply go to a park and hope someone else pops a Mossy, Glacial or Magnetic lure. Or find a Pokemon GO Discord channel and coordinate with people. We’re seeing lure party plans everywhere.

Leafeon and Glaceon Naming Trick

As you probably know, you could do all of the other Eeveelutions by changing the name of Eevee to the nickname of the evolution you wanted. This only works once and is known as the Eevee naming trick. We can now confirm that you can easily evolve any Eevee into Leafeon or Glaceon by simply changing their name, rebooting the game, and hitting the Evolve button.

  • Glaceon: Rea
  • Leafeon: Linnea

Tap edit, change the name to Rea or Linnea, reboot the game and you’re all set. Now simply evolve your Eevee. You can expect this to work on Sylveon too, whenever that fairy is added to the game.

Once we learn more or they confirm every possible way to get a new lure and do these evolutions, we’ll update this article. For now, go buy a Mossy Lure, find a pokestop in the shade, lure it up, catch an Eevee and if you have enough candy go ahead and evolve it.

As a reminder, this same process works with the Magnetic Lure model to evolve Magnezone and Probopass, two popular monsters players have been waiting patiently to add to the Dex. Enjoy all the new pokemon in the game.
