What's New

Depending on what software you're coming from, a lot is new. Those jumping from Android 8.0 right to Android 8.1 will notice a few small changes. Especially the original Pixel. Pixel and Pixel XL users will enjoy a similar experience as the new Pixel 2 with the 8.1 release.

Along with adding the Pixel Visual Core, Google made changes to the ambient display, the on-screen navigation buttons now dim to prevent burn-in, there are new gestures and more. Google's also added Neural Networks API, improved targeting for low-RAM devices, an Autofill framework update, programmatic Safe Browsing actions, and fingerprint updates. Not to mention a better hamburger and beer emoji. The important things, you know.
