Published

on

The Call of Duty: Modern Warfare release date is coming in October and Activision offers a ton o of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare editions. There are five editions to choose from, it can be difficult to figure out which version is the best value and if you should buy the game on disk or digitally.

Activision offers five 2019 Call of Duty: Modern Warfare editions that are all available on the PS4, Xbox One and PC. GameStop also listed two exclusive editions, but one is not available to order just yet. The only real catch is that the PC version is only on Blizzard’s Battle.net.

There are some pre-order bonuses already confirmed that are shared across all of the different editions. The more you spend, the more you get, and these look to be cosmetic options and Call of Duty Points at this stage.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Standard Edition

The Call of Duty: Modern Warfare edition is the basic version of the game that includes the full game with single player campaign, co-op and multiplayer. This version does include a Prestige Token to use in Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 and there will be some other bonus items — likely beta access — but overall it is basic package with nothing special to it.

You can buy the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare standard edition for $59.99 on disk or digitally. There aren’t any deals just yet, but we expect that some retailers will offer a discount of around $10 by the time the release date arrives in October. Newegg often offers $5 to $10 off and Best Buy typically offers a $10 reward.

This is the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare edition that most people should buy, especially with no Season Pass and no firm details on how the DLC will work without one.

Who should buy this edition of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare?

  • Casual Call of Duty players
  • Gamers who will split time between Call of Duty: Modern Warfare and other games this fall.

You can buy the standard edition at Amazon, GameStop, Best Buy, Microsoft, Sony and Battle.net

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Operator Edition

The Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Operator Edition is a nice middle ground for users who want to start the game with some digital items, but also don’t want to spend $100 on a new Call of Duty game.

With this version you get the base game, the Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 Prestige token, a digital bonus item and the Operator Edition Premium Digital items.

  • Gamers that will make Call of Duty: Modern Warfare their big game for the fall.
  • Gamers who like in game bonus items but don’t like COD Points.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Operator Enhanced Edition

The Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Operator Enhanced Edition is $99.99 and it comes with everything from the Operator Edition, plus 3,000 Call of Duty Points.

You can buy 2,400 Call of Duty Points for $19.99, but with this bundle you get an extra 600 COD Points. It’s not a massive boost, but if you plan to use these in game, it is a nice option.

Who should buy this edition of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare?

  • Gamers that will spend cash in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare post release.
  • Gamers who don’t want the GameStop exclusives.

You can buy the Operator Enhanced edition at Amazon, Best Buy, Microsoft, Sony and Battle.net

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Precision Edition

GameStop offers two special editions, and this is the option for users that want a lot of in-game content and a steelbook, but don’t want to shell out $200 for lots of real world collectibles.

The Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Dark Edition is a super exclusive version that should retail for around $200. It appeared on GameStop, but then disappeared, so it’s not clear if this is an exclusive or if it will also show up at Amazon and Best Buy.

This expensive edition includes wearable “working” night vision goggles. You can see these in the image above ane in the tweet below.

We expect to learn more about this later today. If you want this edition, you should plan on pre-ordering since it could easily sell out.

  • This is for the ultimate Call of Duty: Modern Warfare fans that are excited about the return of Modern Warfare.

The Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Dark Edition is $200 at GameStop.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Disk or Digital?

If you are buying the base game and you like convenience, buy digitally. If you are buying the base game and you want to save on day one, look for some deals on the disk version closer to the release date.

If you like collectibles, you will need to go with the GameStop options and get the game on a disk. The $99 GameStop exclusive Call of Duty: Modern Warfare edition is a better value than buying the Operator Enhanced edition digitally.

While you may want to trade ein or sell Call of Duty: Modern Warfare later, the values drop quickly, so this is a game that most gamers should buy digitally.

If you buy digitally you can also play as early as 6 PM on October 24th, depending on where you live.
