How to Fix a Frozen iPhone in 10 Seconds

Published

on

This guide will show you how to fix a frozen iPhone without losing your data or visiting an Apple Store for help. You can fix a frozen iPhone in 10 seconds without a computer or any other accessories so that you can get back with your day. You can also use this to fix a frozen iPad, iPad mini and iPad Pro. This works on iOS 9, iOS 10 and iOS 11.

Sometimes a frozen iPhone will not let you do any type of activity, and often you are stuck on-screen in an app or on a home screen. This can also help if your iPhone is stuck off and won’t turn on, but mainly you will use this when the iPhone is stuck on with an app or something on-screen.

This is a hard-reboot, but some people will call it a hard-reset. Don’t worry about the reset part of this name. You are not resetting the iPhone like you would with a factory reset that wipes all the data clean.

This may not solve all of your problems. If the iPhone freezes regularly you may need to remove an app or perform an actual factory reset on your iPhone and start from scratch.

It’s normal for an iPhone to freeze once or twice in a year after you install a bad app or run into a problem. If things continue to freeze or go bad, there may be a hardware problem that requires a trip to an Apple Store.

Fix a Frozen iPhone in 10 Seconds

You can fix a frozen iPhone in about ten seconds by pressing and holding the power and home button at the same time until the iPhone restarts.

If you have the iPhone 7, you need to press the volume down and the power button at the same time. Once the iPhone screen changes from the frozen state to showing an Apple logo or just a blank screen you can let go.

This is a hard reboot. By pressing and holding the home button and power button you force the iPhone to restart. This is similar to holding the power button on a Macbook or laptop or just unplugging a device from power.

You'll see this screen when you fix a frozen iPhone.

You don’t need to hold the power buttons after the phone restarts. You should not lose any data doing this, but if you were typing a message, document or working on something inside of an app you may lose that small bit of work depending on when it saved.

You don’t need to be plugged into power or connected to a computer to use this method of fixing a frozen iPhone. If the battery is low, it may help to plug-in to power, but otherwise, you are good to do this anytime the iPhone is frozen.

This works on any iPhone, iPad or iPod touch on any version of Apple’s software including iOS 5, iOS 6, iOS 7, iOS 8, iOS 9, iOS 10 and the upcoming iOS 11.

For users who consistently have this problem, it may be good to uninstall a problem app or make sure it is up to date. If you never restart your iPhone or iPad and you have this happen once or twice a year you can often avoid it by restarting you iPhone once every other week.

If this is a continual problem you should consider backing up the iPhone to iCloud or your computer and then performing a factory reset. This takes longer to complete, but it can resolve problems.

If you choose to restore from an iPhone backup and the problem continues you may need to hard reset the iPhone and then set it up as a new device.

The iOS 11.4 update added Messages in iCloud and AirPlay 2, but it also brought issues along with it. The iOS 11.4.1 update keeps these long anticipated features and includes fixes for some iOS 11.4 problems.

Specifically the iOS 11.4.1 update;

  • Fixes an issue that prevented some users from viewing the last known location of their AirPods in Find My iPhone.
  • Improves reliability of syncing mail, contacts and notes with Exchange accounts.

This update also includes other bug fixes and security upgrades. It's possible that this update includes a fix for bad iOS 11.4 battery life.

Messages in the Cloud allows you to backup your iMessage conversations to the cloud just like you back up your notes, contacts and photos. This means they are backed up in case something happens to your phone, but that's not all.

Messages in the Cloud syncs deleted messages and threads across your iCloud devices. This means everything will show up the same across your Apple devices. With this in place you should see the same conversations everywhere, all of the time.

This also backs up the photos and attachments in the cloud so you have more room on your iPhone or iPad. When you get a new device all of the messages sync to that device so you don't lose anything.

I tried to hard reset my iPhone and put device in recovery mode or DFU mode. None of this work, I also found some tools, which claim to fix iOS system to normal from issues like black screen, white screen, boot loop etc without data loss. Anyone has tried this method before? https://www.imyfone.com/ios-data-recovery/iphone-stuck-on-apple-screen-solution/

My iphone 6 remains stuck on the white screen with the apple logo. I held down the home and lock button for 10 seconds, and the screen turned black, but then remained stuck on the screen with the apple logo, and still won’t switch on. What do I do?
