Samsung is rolling Android Pie out to the Galaxy A9, Galaxy A8, Galaxy A7, and Galaxy A6. If you own one of these devices you should start preparing for your upgrade right now.
The Galaxy A Android Pie update is currently limited to the Galaxy A9 (2018), Galaxy A8 (2018), Galaxy A7 (2018), and Galaxy A6+ in select regions, but we expect the roll out to pickup speed as we push through the month.
If you own one of these devices and you haven’t seen the Android Pie prompt just yet, use this time to prepare yourself and your device for the move from Android Oreo to Android Pie.
The Galaxy A Pie update went through a short beta, but some of you are likely to encounter bugs and performance issues after upgrading to the new operating system. A little prep work will go a long way toward preventing major issues.
In this guide we’ll take you through some steps to take before you install Android Pie on your Samsung Galaxy A9, Galaxy A8, Galaxy A7, or Galaxy A6.
We recommend setting aside 30 minutes or so of time to prepare though some of you might need some more time depending on the current state of your phone and your skill level.
Make Sure You're Backed Up
Before you tap install, make sure all of your important data is backed up. Data loss issues are pretty rare, but there's always a chance something gets fouled up during the installation process.
There are a few ways to ensure all of your files are being backed up properly. One of the best options is Samsung's Smart Switch application.
Smart Switch backs up all of the SMS messages, settings, home screen settings, call logs, applications, photos, videos, and documents stored on your phone.
You can also use Samsung Cloud, Samsung's cloud storage solution. Note that you only get a limited amount of free storage. If you need more, you can always purchase it.
You can also use a third-party backup option like Super Backup & Restore. This is still our favorite third-party solution and it's worth a look. It's free to download.
