Use iOS 11 & iOS 11.1
If you haven't done so already now would be a great time to start getting familiar with Apple's iOS 11 operating system.
You won't have a choice when it comes to the software that powers the iPhone X. The device will run iOS 11 out of the box with no way to drop back to iOS 10.
The good news is that iOS 11 is currently out for older devices including Apple's iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus which means you can get familiar with iOS 11 in a few different ways.
You could download it on your current iPhone and give it a whirl. There are some great reasons to consider that.

We also recommend getting familiar with iOS 11.1. iOS 11.1 is currently in beta and we expect it to arrive in and around the iPhone X release date. In fact, we wouldn't be surprise if iOS 11.1 powers the iPhone X out of the box.
The more comfortable you are with iOS and iOS 11 ahead of the iPhone X release the better.
