How to Fake Pokémon Go Location on iPhone & Android

Published

on

You can fake your Pokémon Go location to catch more Pokémon without leaving your couch. You will need to fake the iPhone location or Android location and it’s more complicated than you might think. Choosing to use a fake Pokémon Go location can also result in a ban, so use this wisely.

Niantic is issuing permanent bans for users caught using some Pokémon Go cheats, so use this at your own risk. The latest punishment comes in the form of a soft ban that basically hides all the good monsters if Niantic thinks you are cheating.

This is what you need to know about faking your Pokémon Go location using a jailbroken iPhone or a rooted Android phone. There are even Pokémon Go hacks to hatch eggs without walking and a non-root way to fake your Pokémon Go GPS location on Android.

Pokémon Go uses GPS to determine where you are and to figure out which Pokémon are nearby. There are apps for iPhone and Android that allow you to fake your location using GPS coordinates. This is also called spoofing your location.

We’ve added information on how to get your Pokémon character to run around when you are sitting in one place, which can help you hatch Pokémon eggs and get you close enough to a Pokéstop to collect. This is as close as you can get to using a fake Pokémon Go location without a jailbreak or root.

In addition to legitimate Pokémon Go hacks that can change your location you will also need to know where the Pokémon are with GPS coordinates unless you plan to try a bunch of random locations.

We’ve seen the developer crackdown on Pokémon Go cheats including Botting which and multi-account hacks through bans and limitations. We’re also seeing punishments doled out for players who link their accounts to tools that check IV Pokémon levels automatically.

Users on older versions of iOS can use a jailbreak to fake their Pokémon Go GPS location. This should still work on the iOS 9.3.3 jailbreak and iOS 10 jailbreak, but overall compatibility may change as jailbreak apps become incompatible, and as Niantic fights back. There is no current iOS 11.4 jailbreak.

You can jailbreak your iPhone and install these apps to hide the fact that you are jailbroken and to fake your iPhone location. If you are on Android you can root your phone and use a tool to hide that it is rooted.

Why do you need to hide that you are changing your Pokémon Go location? The Pokémon Go rules state:

Don’t do it. Play fair. Pokémon GO is meant to be played on a mobile device and get you outside to explore your world! Methods of cheating, unfortunately, are limited only by cheaters’ imaginations, but include at a minimum the following: using modified or unofficial software; playing with multiple accounts (one account per player, please); sharing accounts; using tools or techniques to alter or falsify your location; or selling/trading accounts.

If you are caught using Pokémon Go cheats you may receive a warning, a suspension or the account may be terminated.

Keep in mind that if you use a Pokémon Go cheat to change your location, the company may be able to pick that up on their end, even if you hide your jailbreak or root.

Niantic now shares a way to appeal a Pokémon Go ban that was issued for, “falsifying your location, using emulators, modified or unofficial software and/or accessing Pokémon GO clients or backends in an unauthorized manner including through the use of third party software.”

If you believe your Pokémon Go ban is not justified, you can contact the company using this form to plead your case.

How to Fake Pokémon Go GPS Location Without Root

You can fake your Pokémon Go GPS location on Android without a root. This option will not work on the iPhone, so don’t try it and don’t pay for fake GPS apps in the app store of the iPhone as they will not work.

Download a GPS faking app from the Google Play Store. There are some free apps and some paid apps. Look for GPS Joystick, or Fake GPS Go, or Fake GPS Joystick apps. Pick one and make sure you have Pokémon Go installed.

Turn on developer mode to fake Pokémon Go GPS location without root.

On Android, you need to enable developer options. Go to Settings -> About Phone -> tap on the Build Number 7 times. Once this is done, you will see the “You are now a developer!” message.

Enable the Fake GPS location app to change your phone's location.

Exit back out to the Settings menu and tap on the new Developer options setting. In here you need to tap on Select mock location app and then on Fake GPS Go, which is the or whatever fake GPS app you choose.

Now open the Fake GPS Joystick app and change your location. This will also start a small joystick on the screen. You can either set a location far away, or you can just get the Joystick on your screen and then use it to move around in Pokémon Go.

Start Pokémon and you will now be in the new location. You can use the joystick to walk around that location without actually moving.

Watch out as some users report the app will snap back to their real location at times. If that happens with Pokémon Go open, you may get banned since it is a sign you are faking your location.

Step 1. Jailbreak or Root Your Phone

Due to changes in iOS, Cydia and the jailbreak community, we can’t verify that this method of cheating at Pokémon Go still works, so proceed on the iPhone at your own caution.

The first thing you need to do is jailbreak your iPhone or root your Android phone. Depending on your software and you phone this may not be possible or it may involve a lot of steps. It is generally easier to jailbreak the iPhone on iOS 9.3.3 or iOS 10 than it is to root the Galaxy S7 and other recent phones.

Step 2. Hide Your Jailbreak or Root

Make sure the Pokémon Go app can't see your jailbreak.

Make sure the Pokémon Go app can’t see your jailbreak.

The Pokémon Go app will check to see if you are jailbroken or rooted and if you are, the app goes bonkers and won’t work. This is an effort to stop cheaters and stop users from faking their Pokémon go location.

You need to install tsProtector on your iPhone to hide your jailbreak. This is now a paid app that prevents Pokémon Go from knowing you are jailbroken. Use this guide to add the right repo and download the jailbreak protector. You need to pay $1.99 for tsProtector 8+.

If you need to buy this tweak and you are on iOS 9.3.3 Cydia will not let you do it without a workaround. Use the video above, or this guide to buy Cydia apps on iOS 9.3.3 without waiting.

On Android you can try Hide my Root or search for other apps or tweaks on XDA.

Step 3. Download a Location Faking App for iPhone or Android

Now you need to download an app to fake your iPhone location or spoof your GPS on Android.

On the iPhone, the best Cydia app to fake your iPhone location is LocationFaker. Here’s a guide on how to install and use LocationFaker for iOS 7, iOS 8 and iOS 9. This app is $2.99 in the Cydia store. You’ll need to use the same workaround shown above to buy this on Cydia if you are on iOS 9.3.3.

A new PokémonGoAnywhere jailbreak tweak allows you to tap on your screen to walk around in Pokémon Go.

To use this app you will need to add https://williamlcobb.com/repo to your sources in Cydia. Then search for PokemonGoAnywhere. Install this on your iPhone and restart Springboard. When this is done, you can open Pokémon Go and you’ll see options to walk around the map at different speeds by tapping.

You can check out a host of other jailbreak apps to help with your Pokémon Go cheats on Reddit.

On Android, you need to download Fake Location Spoofer Free to your phone.

Step 4. Catch Em All

Once you have all these apps installed on a jailbroken iPhone or rooted Android device you should be able to use the app to fake your location, then go into Pokémon Go and see Pokémon in other locations.

This does work, but it could cost you the account and all your progress if you are caught.

How to Fake Pokémon Go Location without Jailbreak or Root

You can fake Pokémon Go location without a jailbreak or root, but it is only a small fake and it has limited use. You can use this to make your character walk when you are not, which will hatch eggs and you can also use it to get closer to Pokéstops that are just outside of your current location.

On Android you need to turn location to device only. This will use the GPS only on your device and it means your location may move around often. This can cause your in-game character to walk a lot while you are stuck at a desk.

Go to Settings -> Location -> Mode -> Device only.

This will impact other location based apps, so you may want to change it back when you are done. On Reddit one user reports that this caused his character to walk 1.7km while sitting at a desk. The distance walked will vary depending on your location and GPS accuracy.

On iPhone you cannot change this setting, but users report that if you hit the home button and use another app for a few minutes and then come back it can cause your character to run around and add distance toward hatching eggs. It’s not as good as on Android, but it can help out while you are at work or school.

Using these methods while technically a Pokémon Go cheat is not going to cause you to lose your account the way the previous methods would.

How to Use Pokémon Go While Driving or Riding

There are lockouts in Pokémon Go that prevent you from playing while driving, which is great for safety, but that can limit your ability to play as a passenger. You can try a few ways to get around this, which still work in June 2018.

On the Apple Watch, open Pokémon Go and start a workout in the app. Now you need to travel slowly in a vehicle. This might be in an Uber in traffic or even on a golf cart. make sure you move your watch hand up and down slowly while you are moving. This can rack up a lot of miles over time.

You can also drop an Incense while traveling, which can help Pokémon spawn for you during your trip, and you can catch them even while moving faster than the speed lock.

While these may not work every time, it is a good way to rack up some extra miles and are worth trying when you are a passenger.

Baseball Boy

Baseball Boy is a great time waster game because it only takes a few seconds to play one turn, so you can use it e en when you only have a minute or two to wait in line.

This is a timing game. You tap to swing the bat when it is lined up in the center of the arc to get a perfect hit. Each hit earns you points that you can spend towards strength, speed, bounciness and offline earnings.

I love that I can keep coming back to this game when I have a few minutes to kill and after a few turns I can increase my stats and go a little further the next time. There's a little strategy to it, but for the most part it's a great little distracting game.
