Speaking of the Always-On Display, Google added something else to this feature that you'll absolutely love. We expect more features of this nature over time, but for now, there's something called "Now Playing" that works with the AOD.
Even when your screen is off and the Pixel 2 is sitting on a table, it can recognize any song playing around you. The phone isn't listening in on users or doing anything creepy. It doesn't even send the audio back to Google servers to check the music, like SoundHound or Shazam. Instead, there's a built-in collection of millions of songs and the Pixel 2 simply recognizes the music without you ever asking. Right on the bottom of the Always-On display is a small area that shows the Now Playing song and artist. One tap and you can learn more, watch the music video, buy the album and more. It's the little things that make life easier, like this one.
