The Samsung Galaxy S8 Android Pie update is rolling out which means Galaxy S8, Galaxy S8+, and Galaxy S8 Active owners should start preparing for its arrival.

The Galaxy S8 Android Pie beta is over and Samsung’s pushing the final version to Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ models around the globe.

The update is currently limited to a few regions, but we expect it to pickup speed as we push into the month of March. If you own a Galaxy S8, Galaxy S8+, or Galaxy S8 Active, use this time wisely.

The Galaxy S8 Pie update went though a beta, but that doesn’t mean there aren’t problems on board. The roll out is young, but we’re hearing and seeing complaints about bugs and performance issues in the final version.

There’s a chance the Android Pie improves your Galaxy S8’s performance but there’s also a chance you run into these very same problems. That’s why it’s extremely important to prepare for the transition from Oreo to Pie.

There are some things you should do before you hit download. A little prep work before you install Android Pie will go a long way toward preventing major headaches.

In this guide we’ll take you through a few strategies that will help you avoid issues with your upgrade. We recommend spending at least 30 minutes preparing for Android Pie. If you don’t have a ton of time to commit to the pre-installation process, make sure you follow this first step.

Make Sure You're Backed Up

Make Sure You're Backed Up

Before you install Android Pie, check to make sure all of your data is backed up. Most data is backed up automatically, but you'll want to make sure before you hit download.

Data loss issues are pretty rare these days, but there's always a chance something gets fouled up during the installation process.

If you haven't backed up your data in awhile you've got some options at your disposal.

The first option is Samsung's Smart Switch application. Smart Switch backs up all of the SMS messages, settings, home screen settings, call logs, applications, photos, videos, and documents you store on your device.

It's a pretty seamless process, but it could take sometime if you store a ton of data on your Galaxy S8, S8+, or S8 Active.

You can also use Samsung Cloud, the company's cloud storage solution. You get a limited amount of free storage, but it might be enough for your needs. If not, you can purchase additional storage.

You'll also find several third-party apps on the Google Play Store. Super Backup & Restore is still one of our favorites but there are a ton of options.
