It's impossible to predict how the Android 7.1.2 build will perform on your Nexus 5X. Some of you might see huge improvements, others might run into annoying problems. This is why we always recommend doing some prep work before installing an Android update on your device. 

We've put together a guide that outlines the steps we typically take before we install an Android update on our Nexus 5X. 

Some of these steps will take you a few minutes, others are a little more involved. All of them are aimed at preventing Android 7.1.2 problems from flaring up. 

At the very least, you'll want to make sure all of your important files are backed up. Your data will probably be fine but it's better to be safe than sorry, particularly with an update of this size. 

Spend a few minutes prepping yourself and your device for Android 7.1.2 and you should come out of the process problem-free.

    I encountered some serious problems with 7.1.2 on my Nexus 6P, so much so that I had to roll back to 7.1.1. Furthermore, when I rolled back, I repeatedly saw dialog boxes telling me that a system app (I think something with the word “core” in the name) had crashed; every time I’d dismiss one, another would pop up. I had to do a factory reset to eliminate the problem.

    Anyway, the problems I experienced with 7.1.2 were: no notification (status) bar; no ability to access Quick Settings or notifications except from the home screen; the background, text, and icons in Quick Settings were all white, making them nearly unreadable (fortunately, the text/icons and background were a slightly different shade of white from each other!); USB audio was broken, resulting in my USB audio interface crashing my USB audio applications.

    since the update my phone has continued crashing and rebooting automatically every 5 mins or so and it doesnt even restart its just the whole thing wherein the colorful circles go round and round this is post the google sign and before the android sign. Reset my phone to factory settings but the issue still persists. kindly advise on a solution to this.

      You will need to re-flash the device. Check out the wugfresh Nexus Root Toolkit. It can help you re-flash your device to factory fresh images.

    I need some help !!
    Since the time my phone updated to 7.1.1, I have been facing a problem.
    While everything else is working fine, internet works only on a Wi-Fi network but not on my mobile data network.
    I have shown it everywhere possible but am still facing this problem.

    My 5x has a decreased Bluetooth performance since the update. I have a Garmin Fenix 3 watch that would always reconnect when it came back into range with the phone. After the update, the connection reattempts are much less frequent and sometimes it will not reconnect until the phone is rebooted. The was no update to the Fenix.

    Additionally, using Bluetooth in my car results in studdering audio until I turn the WiFi off.

    My Nexus 5x was recently updated, and immediately after the initial boot it went into a boot loop. Luckily I did a hard restart and it booted just fine. Otherwise the update has been great. Good battery life, no studders, and no connectivity problems.

    Yes, it’s just working fine, love the Nexus 5x like always. Seems to be a bit more smoother with the update.

    My Nexus 5x got stuck in Bootloop 4 days after updating to 7.1.2. Please be careful while updating yours.

    The update rendered my phone useless, causing it to go into a restart loop. LG is not taking care of me, and google is doing nothing either. This is why people buy apple. I’ve never owned an apple product. I will never buy another google product.

    IT is causing a severe battery drain on mine. Like 3% every hour with the phone simply on and not being used at all. Not even the screen on. I have a very bare bones set up..cell daa turned off. No Bluetooth, NO push notifications..nothing. Before the update, with my usual light use (still more than not where it is draining 2-3% an hour) it would drain about 20% a day. Now it is up to 60-70% a day with NO use.

    They want me to do a factory reset. Not sure what good it will do since it will immediately want to update. So I would be stuck with either the very old one, or the new one that is causing the problem entirely. It isn’t as if it will let me only install the last one that worked fine. And since I don’t sync my phone, it would be a huge pain in the ass

    This update bricked my 11-month-old Nexus 5X this afternoon. We couldn’t even get it to hard restart. Fortunately it was still under the Google warranty, so a refurbished replacement is on the way. I won’t be installing this update on the replacement, and my husband and mother have been warned not to install it on their phones (at least not until bugs are worked out).

    Someone above mentioned Apple products. I dug out my 3.5-year-old iPhone (my second iPhone, and no problems with either) and inserted my Project Fi SIM card from the Nexus brick so that I wouldn’t be left phone-less. It works just fine, as do my 4.5-year-old MacBook and 5-year-old iPad that I used to contact Google with this issue. Google/LG would do well to take notice. I’ll use the replacement Nexus, but between this and the problems with Samsung, my next new phone will be from Apple. The hardware is far better.

    Um….yah. Definitely don`t upgrade to 7.1.2; does it contain malicious code? Uncertain, but shortly after upgrade, while watching video, first the os froze, and from there in less than a few hours was completelt bricked and would no longer turn on. Maybe, there are memory cacheing issues? Definitely releasing from beta was an ill advised decision. Already, there are plenty of posts on 7.1.2 issues.
