BLU may not be a household name like Motorola or Samsung, but they have some pretty excellent phones if you're shopping for kids. In fact, it may be the best smartphone for kids.

The reason we say this is it has a pretty great durable design, decent specs overall, and it's not too big for smaller hands. Well, it's still a 5-inch phone, but in the Android marketplace that's considered small. It's also unbelievably affordable, coming in as low as $50 depending on how you buy it. Let us explain.

With the BLU R1 HD you might not get the same experience as the Moto G4, but it's close for a lot less money. Kids will enjoy the not too big but not too small 5-inch 720p HD display. It's powered by a quad-core processor with 2GB of RAM, and has 16GB of storage. Plenty for a few games. There's also a microSD slot so you'll never run out of storage. It has an 8MP and 5MP front camera setup, and a decent 2,500 mAh battery all running on Android 6.0 Marshmallow.

Don't expect too many software updates, but it's nearly stock Android and will do anything and everything your child will ever need from a phone.

The best part, it's only $119 outright. Additionally, Amazon sells a model for only $59. That low price comes with ads on the lockscreen though. Surely you've all seen the "Users also bought" suggestions on Amazon.com. That essentially pops up on the lockscreen occasionally. It's worth the irritation, and if not, $119 is still a killer deal on a decent well-rounded little phone.
