Best Waterproof Smartphones 2017

Waterproof smartphones allow you to use your new phone without worrying about getting it wet, can allow you to take photos underwater and may mean the difference between wiping your phone clean and paying for a warranty replacement.

Although it is still hard to find the perfect waterproof smartphone, there are 10 great waterproof smartphones to buy in 2017 that fit different needs and situations.

For years it was tough to find a waterproof smartphone, but now you can find many water-resistant smartphones that are waterproof enough for what most users need. You may still need an iPhone case to upgrade your protection, but many iPhones and Android phones come with enough protection for the average user.

When you look for a waterproof phone it is important to make sure you buy the right level of protection. A water-resistant phone can handle a splash, while one that is billed as waterproof can likely handle full submersion for a half an hour in three to six feet of water. A rugged smartphone can also handle drops and other abuse without breaking.

If you walk into a carrier to buy one of the best waterproof smartphones of 2017 most will list specs as water-resistant, which is fine as long as there is a clear indication of how much exposure it can handle. Everything on this list meets specifications that allow the phone to survive underwater for at least 30 minutes.

The iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus, iPhone 8 and 8 Plus and iPhone X are water resistant, but you may need to get a special case if you want to expose your iPhone to water for long periods of time. The iPhone 6s is not waterproof, but a seal helps it hold up to water much better than the iPhone 6 did.

The right iPhone case allows users to carry a waterproof iPhone to the pool or just around the house without worrying about water damage. If you buy an iPhone 6s or iPhone 7 waterproof case from Verizon, the warranty even covers the iPhone with the LifeProof Total Water Protection program.

Here are the best waterproof smartphones for 2017.

Samsung Galaxy Note 8

Samsung Galaxy Note 8

The Samsung Galaxy Note 8 is water resistant, so it can survive in up to five feet of water for up to 30 minutes. It's not fully waterproof to go swimming for extended periods, but it will survive most of the water that you expose your phone to on a daily basis.

The video above shows the Note 8 in water, and you can count on using it as soon as you take it out of the water. Don't expect to use it underwater. That's not what this is meant for. You may experience some sound issues right after it's exposed to water, but once the speaker pushes the water out you should be good to go.

Here are the best Galaxy Note 8 deals you can find, to help you save on this waterproof phone.

If the iphone is not waterproof, it should not be in the list of best waterproof phones. If I was simply looking to place any good phone in a waterproof case, I would search for waterproof cases.

    This article is incorrect.
    The iPhone is NOT waterproof,
    The S7 is rated 1 meter for 30 minutes–not 5 feet,
The MOTO G is completely missing–one of the best waterproofs under $200.

I have the Samsung Galaxy s5. I have taken it swimming and have taken pictures and recorded videos of the kids swimming under water. I dropped it in our pool once in the deep end, which was about 6 feet. Still going strong after 2 years of having it! Makes it even better with the water proof lifeproof fre case

Ah… I feel sorry for those who just have a great moment when their phones water-proof. I’ve felt this years ago.

My wife had a Galaxy S5 and it somehow ended up in the toilet for just 15 mins. It never worked again and had to be replaced. So the claim of the Galaxy S5 being able to stand in water for 30 mins is a blatant lie

Had the Sony Xperia Z3, I do excavation. Had the phone fall into a water line ditch filled with water. Stayed there for over an hr since the line broke and trench kept caving in. Was able to recover it about an 1 and half later and after washing off the mud it still worked. Same issue with mY galaxy s5 and no issues except 5 was only under for about 15 minutes. Took s5 to Hawaii and used it under water the whole time snorkeling and didn’t have any issues just great pics.

Great post. Galaxy S7 is indeed a great smartphone. Moreover, Sony is also manufacturing pretty good devices that are water resistant with IP68 certification but Sony smartphones are overpriced.
By the Way, Galaxy S7 is not an affordable smartphone.
