iPod touch 6th generation

iPod touch 6th generation

It is possible that Apple is planning to drop the iPod touch from the lineup in the next year. The recent Apple investor report no longer lists the iPod as a separate line and the last iPod touch release worth mentioning was in October 2012.

Release Confidence: 15%

Release Timing: Unknown

There are still consumers who like the convenience of an iPod touch that can run the same apps as the iPhone, connect to WiFi and that it doesn't need a monthly cell phone plan. Gotta Be Mobile reader Anne shared what she wants from Apple last year,

"I’m limping along with my adored 4th generation Touch and no way am I going to replace it with gen 5. But the day generation 6 becomes available I’ll be one of the first in the door to  buy one. I will NEVER buy a smartphone and tie myself  down to a contract. My Touch serves me fine, I just want an update and more memory and faster processing and a MUCH better camera.”

Consumers are still waiting for an iPod touch 6th generation release as Apple seems content to let the lineup fade into the past in favor of iPhones and iPads. Competitors like Sony are pushing a high-end Walkman that goes after a different market of music enthusiasts, which is where a small percentage of dedicated music players are currently focused.
