General Stability and Performance Improvements
In my impressions of the Fallout 4 1.3 patch for Xbox One I noted that Bethesda still needs to make some improvements to the game's performance on console.
The graphical changes that arrived for console in the 1.3 patch are great but I was hopeful that the 1.4 update would bring some improvements to frame rate in certain situations.
The Fallout 4 1.4 patch's change log doesn't outline specific fixes for these performance issues but it does come with the ole "general stability and performance improvements" note that Bethesda leaves on every Fallout 4 patch.
I've spent the last couple of weeks testing the Fallout 4 1.4 patch and I've noticed some slight improvements to the game's frame rate inside buildings including Vault 81. Vault 81 used to crawl. With 1.4 on board, it's a whole lot smoother.
I do continue to experience stutter when Vertibirds drop down from the sky (particularly when they are attacking nearby enemies). That said, the slow down only happens in areas that are populated by a number of buildings. The Financial District is a prime example. Otherwise, I'm not seeing any lag.
I also continue to experience sluggishness when I am enveloped by radiation storms and occasionally when I change weapons.
There are still problems, yes, but the stuttering isn't as frequent with the 1.4 patch on board. Obviously, I haven't been able to test every single part of the game but I'll continue to poke around but the early performance is encouraging. At least for me it is.
