iOS 12 will likely bring new emojis to the iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch, but don't expect them to arrive anytime soon.

Emoji 11.0 is out of beta and the Unicode Consortium says it'll bring 157 brand new emoji characters to iOS devices in the second half of this year.

The final list of 2018 emoji characters is extensive and includes super heroes, a flying disc, a mosquito, a moon cake, a bagel, a raccoon, a llama, and a hippopotamus.

Don't expect the new emojis to be available in the iOS 12 beta and we'd be surprised if they were ready to go in the final iOS 12 release this fall.

In the past, Apple's used a milestone upgrade to deliver the new characters to iOS users and the first iOS 12 milestone upgrade will probably come several weeks after the final release.

The Consortium is also proposing support for reversible emoji which would let iOS users flip an emoji in the opposite direction.

Unfortunately, reversible emojis aren't expected to make it into iOS 12 this year.
