The iPhone 7 is water resistant, although many people call it waterproof. Right now you can take the iPhone 7 and drop it in the water for up to 30 minutes at about 3 feet and it should survive.

We want an iPhone 8 that can go underwater like the Apple Watch can or like the Go Pro Hero5 Session can. Both of these devices survive underwater without a special case and can clear the speaker port or microphone port of water when it comes back up.

While we don't need to go underwater every day, this flexibility for accidents and the ability to use it every now and then as a go to action camera would be amazing.

According to The Investor, the iPhone 8 waterproofing will see a massive upgrade. An industry insider tells the publication, “Apple’s iPhone 8 will feature the IP68 rating protection as part of drastic upgrades marking the 10th anniversary of the iPhone this year.” If true this would not be an iPhone you would swim with, but it would match the Galaxy S7.
