OnePlus 5 vs Galaxy S8: Design

Another thing is the design of these two phones. The OnePlus 5 features a premium matte black or silver all-metal frame that looks and feels incredible. In fact, you'd never guess the phone only costs $479. It feels like a premium $800 phone from Samsung or Apple.

There are big bezels on the top and bottom of the phone, but there's also a front-facing fingerprint scanner, something many enjoy. The entire front is covered in Gorilla Glass 5 for durability. The back is all metal, so you don't have to worry about it being fragile.

On the flip side, the Galaxy S8 is glass on both the front and the back, so it's more prone to damage and we recommend using a case. The rest of the phone is all metal, similar to OnePlus, so this one is a tie.

A big aspect of the design is the display and the location of the fingerprint scanner. Samsung doesn't have the room with that big screen, so the fingerprint scanner is awkwardly located on the back next to the camera. Something many owners are frustrated by. The OnePlus 5 fingerprint scanner is on the front under the screen like many are used to already. Both are fast and accurate.

It's all a personal preference at the end of the day. Both look and feel great, and are made from some of the best materials around. One big thing to consider is the Galaxy S8 is IP68 dust and water resistant. It can go under 5ft of water for 30 minutes and work just fine. The OnePlus 5 is NOT water resistant, so keep that in mind.
