Apple adds in 70 new emoji to the macOS 10.13.1 update. These include a wide rang of new emoji for food, professions, clothing, mythical creatures and other new options. 

You need macOS 10.13.1 or higher installed on your Mac to see them in Messages and in other apps on your Mac. Even if you don't send a ton of emoji from your Mac, you will want to be able to see these on more than just your iPhone. 

Once you upgrade you can also send them from your Mac in messages and in other apps. It's not going to make your more productive, but it's definitely a reason to upgrade.
