Wait For Great Cameras & 8K

These days when you talk about a phone's camera capabilities it's all Samsung or Apple, with Google stealing the show on occasion. However, the last few LG phones have flown under the radar with some of the better cameras in the business, especially in the video department.

The LG V50 didn't take the best photos, especially in low-light, but videos were amazing, crisp, and smooth with some crazy image stabilization.

With the all-new LG V60 in 2020 you'll get three very capable cameras on your phone. LG isn't offering a telephoto lens at all, which is the opposite of Samsung's approach, but the other cameras are what's important and where they focused.

The main camera is now a 64MP f/1.8 lens capable of amazing photos and can record in 8K. Then, software will trim and combine the pixels together for 16MP size photos as the final result. This is known as Pixel-binning. Then, there's an upgraded 16MP wide-angle lens like LG always offers along with a ToF sensor for depth-sensing and other stuff. You can still zoom with software, but you're not getting a dedicated telephoto lens like the Galaxy S20 series.

And while we don't have too much information yet, aside from the official specs announced today, we'll have to wait until March or April to test that new 64MP camera before we saw more. For now, just know that LG's cameras are still good, not great, they take amazing video, and now the LG V60 has four microphones and will make a great vlogger device.

The image above is an old leaked photo, just for fun. That said, here's what you'll get from the LG V60 cameras.

  • Main camera: 64MP Standard (F1.8 / 0.8μm / 78˚) (Pixel binning to 16MP)

  • 13MP Super Wide (F1.9 / 1.0μm / 117˚)

  • Z Camera (ToF Receiver / Emitter)

  • Then a 10MP front-facing camera

You'll get a grain main camera, an awesome wide-angle (which LG's offered forever) not to mention a 3rd Depth of field lens. We really expected some sort of 4th lens for telephoto features or even a periscope lens, but LG decided to skip that completely.
