Wait for the Surface Pro 5 if you want a USB Type-C or Thunderbolt 3 port for sure. The 2017 Surface Pro relies on the Surface Connect port, Mini DisplayPort and USB 3.0 Type-A. The Surface Book 2 and the Surface Go both support USB C, so it is something that is definitely coming to the Surface Pro 5 whenever it arrives. This will likely be in addition to the Surface Connect port, which is the standard way to charge the Surface and connect to the Surface Dock.
