Which Forza Horizon 4 Edition Should I Buy?

There are three Forza Horizon 4 editions to choose from. After picking the wrong edition for Forza Horizon 3 and Forza 7, I’m here to help you pick the right edition to pre-order as you look forward to the Forza Horizon 4 release date.

Forza Horizon 4 is $59.99 for the base game, and you can buy a Deluxe edition with the Car Pass or go all out with the Forza Horizon 4 Ultimate edition. If you use Game Pass, you get the base edition of the game included with your monthly subscription price.

The Forza Horizon 4 Ultimate edition is the best value for gamers who plan to play a lot of Horizon 4, and who want access to all of the cars, to earn money faster and who plan to get the expansion passes.

Which Forza Horizon 4 Edition Should I Buy?

I am buying the Forza Horizon 4 Ultimate Edition, and I will likely buy it on disk since I can still get a discount through Best Buy Gamer’s Club Unlocked that drops the price to $79.99. If I didn’t have this discount I would be buying the Ultimate Edition digitally.

I bought Forza Horizon 3 standard, and then ended up buying the expansions and the VIP membership separately. It makes way more sense to buy these all together since I loved Forza Horizon 3, and I expect to play a lot of Forza Horizon 4 over the next few years.

For $99.99, you get $145 in value. The Forza Horizon 4 Car Pass is $29.99, the VIP Membership is $19.99 and Expansions are typically $35 for two. With this option you also get to play four days early.

Here’s a breakdown of the rest of the Forza Horizon 4 editions, and what you need to know about them.

Forza Horizon 4 Standard Edition

The Forza Horizon 4 standard edition is $59.99. This includes the base version of the game, and this is the option that will see the most deals at retailers if you buy on disk. You can expect discounts in the lead up to the release date with Amazon Prime, Gamers Club Unlocked and at stores like Newegg. We expect to see this version get big discounts on Black Friday as well.

The only bonus with this version is the Formula Drift Car pack. You can always buy the add-ons and upgrades later if you decide you like the game. This is what I did for Forza Horizon 3. It’s more expensive, but if you are coming from Forza 7 to your first Horizon game, it might be a better way to test it out.

This version is also included in Game Pass if you subscribe to that. You can also try out Game Pass free to take Forza Horizon 4 for a test run this fall if you want to do that.

Forza Horizon 4 Deluxe Edition

The Forza Horizon 4 Deluxe Edition is $79.99 and it includes the Formula Drift Car Pack as well as the Forza Horizon 4 Car Pass. This gets you access to loads of cars, and normally costs $29.99 if you buy it alone.

This is a good option if you want loads of Forza Horizon 4 cars, but you don’t necessarily want the expansions or need the VIP membership that doubles your wheelspins to help you earn money faster.

This is only available on digital, so you won’t see as many deals out there.

Forza Horizon 4 Ultimate Edition

The Forza Horizon 4 Ultimate edition is $99.99 and it includes all of the extras that you can buy in Forza Horizon 4. This is the version to get if you love Horizon 3 and plan to play Forza Horizon 4 for the next few years. With this you get to play Forza Horizon 4 four days early, and you get all the bonus items including;

• Forza Horizon 4 Car Pass
• Forza Horizon 4 VIP Membership
• Forza Horizon 4 Expansions

This is the one that I am buying, and that offers the most overall value for gamers who plan to play the game and upgrade all of their festivals and cars. The Forza Horizon 4 VIP membership is valuable as you build up your cars and properties in Horizon 4. This is as close as you’ll get to a cheat to get more money in the game.

If you don’t want to spend this much money up front, you can look for deals on the Forza Horizon 4 VIP, Car Pass and Expansions, but you won’t see them right away.

Forza Horizon 4 Digital or Disk

There is a lot to be said about buying the digital version of the game. If I didn’t have a 20% discount at Best Buy with the now discontinued Gamers Club Unlocked I would buy digitally so that I could play without switching disks.

The biggest two reasons to buy on disk are to get better deals and to be able to resell the game later if you get tired of playing. If you are buying for deals, you can save $20 on the Ultimate Edition. When it comes to reselling, stick with the base version of the game, since you can’t include any of the extras if you sell the game.

There are more and more benefits to buying digitally as time goes on. This will likely be the last Forza game I buy on disk.
