iPhone 6 Mophie Juice Pack Plus Review

Published

on

The iPhone 6 Mophie Juice Pack Plus is the best iPhone 6 battery case you can buy with plenty of power, great protection from drops and build quality that make it worth the price.

The iPhone 6 Mophie case is available in two options, including the Mophie Juice Pack Plus which offers up to 120% more battery life and provides increased protection from drops. This version is $119 direct from Mophie.

In this iPhone 6 Mophie Juice Pack Plus review, we’ll explain how well the Mophie iPhone 6 case charges up the iPhone 6, a handy new feature and how  well it protects the iPhone from drops.

The iPhone 6 Mophie Juice Pack Plus earns a Gotta Be Mobile Editor’s Choice Award for combining long battery life with great protection in a well-built iPhone 6 case.

Mophie states that the Juice Pack Pus iPhone 6 battery case can deliver 120% more power than the iPhone alone. With all the debate about iPhone 6 battery life and the need for a thicker iPhone it is nice to see an option that adds battery life to a thin iPhone so we have power when we need it, and a slim device when we don’t.

Although it is possible to switch between cases regularly, and only use the iPhone 6 Mophie Juice Pack Plus when you need more power the case is thin and light enough to use every day, which is how often some of us need more power.

The case adds bulk, but is still slim enough to use every day.

The case adds bulk, but is still slim enough to use every day.

In the last several months I find that I spend more time talking on the phone, and this can quickly deplete the iPhone battery life. Couple that with my tendency to check my email only on the iPhone for most of the day and there are many times when the iPhone battery hits 30% before dinner.

With the Mophie Juice Pack Plus case I can just flip a switch and charge up the iPhone when I am on the go. On even the heaviest days of use I cannot drain both the iPhone 6 and the Mophie Juice Pack Plus.

When charging the iPhone 6 with this case the best way to do it is to go from 20% to 80% and then turn the case off. Repeat when needed and you will get the most power out of the iPhone 6 battery case. It is easier to charge in this range so you can get at least two good charges, with a bit to spare. While working on the iPhone 6 Mophie Juice Pack Plus review I went two days without plugging in. Using this method and I still had power at the end of the second day. You can turn charging on and off with a switch on the back and four LEDs let you know how much of a charge the case has left.

Control the charging with a switch and check how much power is left.

The case does add thickness and bulk to the iPhone 6, but it is still easy to hold on to and to use, though I didn’t hold it as long while reading in bed. The soft matte back is smooth and a little slippery, but the edges are grippy enough to hold it easily.

While attempting to check an alert I dropped the iPhone 6 in the Mophie Juice Pack Plus case from about chest-high on to the sidewalk after it snagged on my shirt. I was sure I would be paying for an out of warranty iPhone 6 screen replacement after the iPhone bounced several times and landed face down, but Mophie saved my iPhone.

This version of the Mophie iPhone 6 battery case includes impact isolation, which is a fancy way of describing the shock absorbing bands built-in to the case. There is also a small lip that keeps the iPhone screen from touching the ground in a drop or a table when placed face down in a meeting.

These green bands provide protection that saved my iPhone 6.

The impact bands and the lip protected the iPhone 6 from the fall and the case stayed attached. Some competing cases don’t offer this type  of  protection and there is enough movement in the case that a drop might sen half of the case flying off. There are two scuff marks on the case, but the phone is fine.

On the bottom of the case is a Micro USB connection that lets users charge the iPhone and the case. It also lets users sync the iPhone with iTunes and use it in a car where it needs to connect to an infotainment system with a cable. This is a new feature that is very handy, as it means there is no need to carry a lightning cable and a Micro USB cable.

You can charge and sync the iPhone with a Micro USB cable in the new Mophie iPhone 6 battery cases.

Mophie includes a nice three-foot USB cable with a charging end that is designed to fit in your hand with the USB plug oriented the right way to plug into the case. There are also two contacts next to the charing port that you can use a dock to charge both the iPhone and the case, once it goes on sale.

There is also a headphone adapter that you will need to use with many third-party headphones. You can still use the Apple Earpods without this, but it is easier to use any headphones with the small adapter. The design also sends the sound towards the front of the iPhone, instead of down. This provides a small boost in volume without any real change to audio quality, but I still prefer to use headphones for 90% of my iPhone 6 audio listening.

Apple Leather iPhone 6 Cases

Apple Leather iPhone 6 Cases

One of the most popular iPhone 6 cases is the leather iPhone 6 case from Apple. This case is one that you can find in any Apple Store on release day and is also listed with many carriers.

Apple designs the leather iPhone 6 case with premium leather in a small form factor that adds minimal bulk to the new iPhone. You can find the leather iPhone 6 case in five color options that match the white and black front of the iPhone 6.

Watch out if you buy the red iPhone 6 case as the leather model for the iPhone 5s wore very fast and looked dirty and grey soon after purchasing.

Agree, good product especially for us road warriors. Just one thing though, it’s a product made specifically for the iPhone 6 so why not make the charging port compatible with iPhone?
