FlightAware

FlightAware is a useful tool for nervous flyers because it comes in handy before, and sometimes during, your flight.

FlightAware is a comprehensive travel app for iOS and Android and the one I use most often before, and during, travel. Let's start with the before.

At the most basic level FlightAware allows you to track your flight and often times it's more up-to-date than the app from your airline carrier.

It also allows you to track your inbound flight which can be useful if there's weather in the area or if you're feeling anxious about the exact timing of boarding and departure.

FlightAware also comes with a useful MiseryMap that shows you airports with the most/worst delays. This will help prepare you for a potential delay.

You can also get a glimpse at the local weather and the app also provides you with details about wind and cloud cover. Wind can drive turbulence so if winds are calm and light, your flight probably won't be bumpy.

While you're in the air, assuming you have an internet connection, you can track your flights progress. If the flight was delayed, you'll get updated arrival times which is nice if you're trying to rush to a business meeting or catch a connecting flight.

FlightAware is essential for all travelers, but it's especially great for jumpy flyers who tend to worry about delays and weather.
