Building on multiple years of design, the 2018 XPS 13 is a refined notebook milled out of a single block of aluminum that uses advanced design techniques to keep the notebook cool while still being slimmer and more portable.

You can buy the 2018 Dell XPS 13 at Dell, Microsoft and Microsoft Stores now starting at $999. A special Ubuntu developer edition is available for $949 direct from Dell.

The 2018 Dell XPS 13 packs in a new 8th generation Intel processor and includes a new version of the Dell Power Manager which allows users to decide if they want more power or if they want a quieter experience.

Users can expect blistering fast speeds thanks to a quad core processor, up to 16GB of RAM and up to a 1 TB SSD. The notebook packs in a super-bright 400 nit display that is the smallest ell Cinema display. This delivers vibrant colors and a better dynamic range so you get dark blacks and bright colors while working or while enjoying movies.

The 13.3-inch 4K Display is covered with Corning Gorilla Glass 4 and surrounded by a 4mm thick bezel that delivers a beautiful frame for your display.

You’ll find far field Cortana support so you can use voice control from up to 14 feet away, a fingerprint reader and Windows Hello to log you in as well as two ThunderBolt 3 USB C ports for connectivity.

For connectivity you get  microSD card slot, headset jack, USB C 3.1 port and the two ThunderBolt 3 USB C ports. The one catch to this system is the webcam is at the bottom of the screen, which makes for some awkward angles while on video chat.

The rose gold Dell XPS 13 comes with a white interior that is made from “new crystalline silica material with the white color literally woven in, like a fabric, in nine composite layers,” This alpine white glass weave is bound to get dirty as you use the notebook, but Dell says you can wipe off staining materials within 7 days and get a clean look. That even includes mustard and permanent markers.

The 2018 Dell XPS 13 starts at $999 for the Windows version and a special developer version with Ubuntu is $949. You can configure it with a range of options and prices. Dell currently offers four models of the new XPS 13 for consumers.

  • Dell XPS 13 – $1199 – 8th gen Intel Core i5, 8GB RAM, 256GB PCIe SSD, 1080P Display.
  • Dell XPS 13 – $1449 – 8th gen Intel Core i7, 8GB RAM, 128GB SSD, 1080P Display.
  • Dell XPS 13 – $2049 – 8th gen Intel Core i7, 16GB RAM, 128GB SSD, 4K Touch Display.

You can upgrade to a 4K touch display on the two middle models for an additional $350 and you can opt for a 1TB PCIe SSD on the high end XPS 13 for an additional $400.

The 2018 Dell XPS 13 battery life is rated at just under 20 hours with the 1080P display while using Word or Excel. That’s a super-long battery stat. You can expect less while you are working in more demanding apps or streaming, but battery testing still rates the new XPS 13 at roughly 8 to 15 and a half hours for browsing and more demanding tasks.
