Don't Wait for an OLED Display

There's been chatter about Apple using an OLED display panels though it's unclear if this change will come in 2022 or later. Right now it looks like it'll be 2023 or 2024.

According to Korean outlet ETNews, Apple is planning to launch an 11-inch OLED iPad and a 12.9-inch OLED iPad in 2023.

Display Supply Chain Consultants (DSCC) also believes Apple will enter the OLED tablet market in 2023 rather than 2022.

DSCC has released a newer report and the firm claims Apple will release OLED models in both 11-inches and 12.9-inches.

Korean publication TheElec says LG is working on an OLED panel for a 12.9-inch iPad model with better durability and brightness. This panel will reportedly enter production by 2024.

The Elec also reports that LG's moving OLED production equipment to different facilities in order to meet Apple's demand for the panels.

In another report, the publication says OLED-powered iPads are still on the table and they will likely debut sometime in 2024. The site also says Apple suppliers in China are preparing for the first OLED iPad launch which they anticipate will happen in 2024.

At one point analyst Ming-Chi Kuo thought Apple would bring mini-LED tech to the 11-inch iPad Pro in 2022. Now, Kuo says "Apple may not launch new mini-LED products this year due to cost concerns."

He's reiterated this in a new tweet that says Apple is unlikely to launch any new products with new mini-LED display sizes.

Analyst Ross Young also says Apple won't extend mini-LED technology to the new 11-inch iPad Pro model.
