Wait for Better Data Speeds
The 2022 iPhones will likely have much faster data speeds thanks to a new modem from Qualcomm.
Earlier this year, Qualcomm announced the Snapdragon X65 which takes its place as the first 10 Gigabit modem/system for smartphones.
According to Qualcomm, the Snapdragon 65X is capable of theoretical data speeds up to 10 gigabits per second. Devices probably won't hit those speeds in the real world, but we should still see faster overall 5G speeds.
In addition, the company says the new system will enhance "power efficiency and performance for users" and provide enhanced coverage for mmWave and sub-6 GHz bands.
Qualcomm's also announced some upgrades to the Snapdragon X65 which include improved power efficiency and support for wider mmWave carriers. The company notes this is a requirement ahead of the rollout of 5G mmWave networks in China.
Apple will reportedly start using its own modem in iPhones starting in 2023, a move that would put Qualcomm on the sideline.
Kuo also believes Apple will start using its own 5G modem in the 2023 iPhones "at the earliest."
