The iPhone 12 series comes with fantastic cameras and the iPhone 13 series has built on its foundation. However, it looks like the iPhone 14 could take things to a new level.

According to Korean publication The Elec, and several other sources, Apple might bring a "folded" telephoto lens to some iPhone 14 models. If this happens, we'd see a massive increase to the iPhone's optical zoom capabilities.

Apple's been granted a periscope camera patent though some analysts believe the company will deploy the technology in 2023 rather than 2022.

Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo thinks at least one iPhone 15 model will get a periscope lens in 2023. This change would lead to increased optical zoom.

This has been backed by a report out of South Korea which states that "Samsung Electro-Mechanics will be excluded from Apple’s supply chain for folded zoom camera modules for iPhones launching in 2023."

The iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone 12 Pro Max have 2x and 2.5x limits, but this new technology could bring the iPhone in line with Android devices that can shoot 10x without blurriness.

Korean publication The Elec says Apple's found a supplier for the periscope lens. It says it will begin supplying Apple next year.

Ming-Chi Kuo believes the iPhone 14 will come with substantial upgrades including a 48MP sensor on the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max and 8K video recording. He's reiterated this stance in a newer research notes.

Bloomberg's Mark Gurman also believes the 48MP sensor will be exclusive to the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max.

Haitong International Securities analyst Jeff Pu concurs. Pu believes the iPhone 14 Pro models will come with a 48MP wide lens and 12MP Ultra Wide and Telephoto lenses.

Research firm TrendForce also believes Apple's iPhone 14 Pro models will come with a 48MP rear-facing Wide camera.

Leaked iPhone 14 schematics suggest the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max will have a larger camera bump.

According to Kuo, the "main reason for the larger and more prominent rear-camera bump" of the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max is because Apple is "upgrading the wide camera to 48MP."

Another report, from Chinese micro-blogging site Weibo, states the iPhone 14 Pro models will have a 21% larger sensor which would allow the devices to take more detailed photos. The sensor will reportedly come from Sony.

Alleged iPhone 14 molds, also from Weibo, showcase the potential sizes of the upcoming 2022 iPhone models. They also provide an up-close look at the camera bumps. Additional images of iPhone 14 cases (from Weibo) and dummy units based on leaked schematics show them in even greater detail.

In addition, Kuo thinks all four iPhone 14 models will come with upgrades to the front-facing camera. Specifically, he believes the devices will get autofocus and a wider ƒ/1.9 aperture. Kuo has released another report outlining Apple's plans for the front-facing camera in detail.

Another report, from Korean publication The Elec, concurs. The site says Apple is planning to use a high-end front-facing camera with autofocus on the iPhone 14.
