The Apple Watch 3 is waterproof. Not just just splash it with water, and not water resistant like your iPhone. This is full blown take it swimming in water up to 50 meters deep and it will not only keep working -- it will track your swim too. 

Apple showed off a paddle boarding employee wearing the Apple Watch 3 with LTE giving a call from the middle of a lake, and that's just the start of what you can do. 

The Series 2 introduced this feature and if you want it you will need to skip over the Series 1 and go with the Apple Watch 3. This is something that we love even though we rarely swim with the Apple Watch. The peace of mind while wading down a river fishing with a waterproof watch and simply not worrying about it while doing other activities makes it well worth the price premium.
