Black Ops 4 Blackout Beta Problems & Fixes

Published

on

The Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 Blackout beta is here, and there are already some issues and errors that prevent you from getting into the limited playtime and testing out the new game. This is how you can fix Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 beta problems and what to do if you can’t fix them.

Treyarch already pushed out the update to the original beta that enables Blackout, and that delivered one of our first problems of the Blackout beta. Thankfully it was easy to fix.

This is what to do if you are having trouble getting started with your Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 beta codes, tokens, downloads and installs. We’ll also walk though some of the other issues that you may run into as you play and what to do if you see them.

Keep in mind this is a beta. It is not a finished product. We will likely see updates every morning that fix some issues and change gameplay as they work out issues. The game may crash, and you may run into other oddities as you play. We can help you fix some of these issues, but you may need to live with some of the Black Ops 4 beta problems for the duration.

The Blackout beta update is live across PS4 and Xbox One, and you may run into issues. The problem we ran into was not enough space on the same drive as the beta. In this case the Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 Blackout beta was on the internal storage, and there was not enough room to install the beta on that drive, despite there being enough room overall.

If you run into this issue on the Xbox One, you should uninstall another game that you don’t use. I wouldn’t uninstall the Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 beta to try and move it to another drive.

Missing Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 Beta Codes

Are you missing your Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 beta code from the retailer that you bought from? If so, you are not alone.

It takes Amazon about 24 hours to send out a code that you use to sign up for the beta. You won’t get your Xbox One or PC code until later this week.

If you don’t have your code, you should check to see if it is in the spam folder. You can also check your original receipt or email as you may have missed it.

Some people recommend getting on chat with the company that you bought from, but if you do this with Amazon don’t expect much. Chat support simply told me to wait, that the code was processing and then left.

Make sure you register your Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 beta code, so you can get your token.

The best thing to do if you don’t get the code in a timely fashion is to pre-order Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 from another retailer and then cancel one of your orders.

If your Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 beta code is invalid, or says it has already been used and you know it wasn’t, you can contact Activision using the links on this page for more help.

I’m planning to buy at Best Buy if Amazon doesn’t come through. You may want to do the same. If you have Xfinity, you can get a free code here.

How to Fix Missing Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 Beta Tokens

After you register for the Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 beta, you need to get a token. This is what you enter on your PS4 or Xbox One to get access to the beta and start the download.

You should have this code in your email. Search for callofduty.com in your email app and see if you can find it. If you don’t see it there, go to this page, and you should be able to see your Black Ops 4 beta token if you login.

Anyone that pre-ordered digitally directly on the PS4, Xbox One or PC will not need a code, just search the store for the Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 beta and download it.

How to Fix Slow Black Ops 4 Blackout Beta Downloads

A very common issue, especially on the opening day is dealing with slow Black Ops 4 beta downloads.

This happens when the servers are overloaded, but there is a trick to get a better speed. Go to the downloads section, and pause the Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 beta download for a few seconds and then resume. More often than not this will get you a faster download.

You can also try switching to a wired connection if possible. You may also want to stop streaming on other devices in the house until the download completes. If nothing else helps, try rebooting your modem.

I ran into this issue when I was trying to install a game, and luckily I was able to clear it up before the Black Ops 4 beta started. Sometimes you will not be able to install the beta on your console.

Most of the time this is due to not having enough space. If this is the case, you will need to delete a game or game captures to be able to install the beta. I had to delete several old betas that I forgot I had installed.

If you get a random error, or are not out of room and can’t install the Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 beta, restart your PS4 or Xbox One. This helped me solve a problem installing Madden 19 trial.

How to Fix Black Ops 4 Blackout Beta Crashes & Freezes

It’s not out of the ordinary for the Black Ops 4 Blackout beta to crash or freeze. If this happens to you, there are some steps you can take to get back to playing.

If this happens, you need to press the home button and then you need to quit the game. Once you quit the game, you can wait a few seconds and go back to playing. On the PS4 you may see;

  1. Error code CE-34878-0.
  2. An error has occurred with an application or system software.

In cases where the Black Ops 4 beta crashes all the time, you can take additional steps.

  1. Restart your console.
  2. Make sure your console is up to date.
  3. Make sure your console is not overheating.
  4. Clear the cache on PS4 or Xbox One.

Since this is a beta, you can expect a few crashes here and there. You may see a Black Ops 4 beta update arrive to fix this. We’ve already seen a hot fix update arrive to fix some issues.

How to Fix Black Ops 4 Blackout Beta Connection Problems

What to do if you have Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 beta connection problems.

What to do if you have Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 beta connection problems.

Are you having Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 Blackout beta connection problems? The first thing to do is check the Black Ops 4 beta server status page. If it isn’t green for your console or PC, you will need to wait for a fix. If it is green, you can take action.

You may see “connection interrupted” and “disconnected from host” Black Ops 4 beta errors as you play. You can take steps to fix these on your own.

To start, Activision is very adamant that you use a wired connection. They warn,

“We strongly recommend using a wired Ethernet connection. A wired connection will allow your system to achieve optimal performance when playing an online game. Wi-Fi connections have a wide variance in reliability and bandwidth, and can dramatically affect the quality of online gameplay. Wired Ethernet connections will maintain the minimum bandwidth connection that is required for online gaming.”

I used to game over WiFi, and i had so many issues. Then I ran a long run of Ethernet cable through my wall to the basement, bought two wall plates and presto, problems gone. You don’t need to be super DIY to do this.

Buy an ethernet cable, two Ethernet wall plates, two old work boxes, and a drywall saw. Cut two square holes, run the ethernet to the other room and then secure everything and make the connections and enjoy better gaming performance. You may need to drill additional holes depending on where you will run the cable. I was able to go into a wall, and into the basement where I have a drop ceiling that made the cable run much easier. Don’t forget two shorter ethernet cables to go from the router to the wall and from the wall to the console.

If you can’t run ethernet, you should reboot the router and modem, as well as your console. You can also use these directions;

You may need to check other settings like turning off Port Forwarding and turning on UPnP on your router. Another thing to check is if you have port forwarding setup correctly for Activision games if you are using it. Finally, you may want to put your console in a DMZ on your router.

In same cases, buying a new router or whole home WiFi is easier than using settings or running cable. I have had good success with the Nighthawk routers, and these Whole Home WiFi systems are in use by many of the Gotta Be Mobile team.

How to Fix Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 Blackout Beta Lag

In cases where you keep seeing Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 beta lag, you can take some steps to fix this. Activision defines lag as;

  • Rubber banding – Your character is running toward a destination and then jumps back to where it was a few seconds prior.
  • Stuttering – An effect that makes your character appear to freeze and skip ahead while moving.
  • Hit marker delays – When it appears you have landed several shots on an enemy, yet the enemy is able to kill you with fewer shots fired back.

If you see these, the best thing you can do is switch to a wired connection using the steps outlined above.

You can also login to your router and see if there are any QoS options or Quality of Service settings that allow you to give priority to PSN, Xbox Live or Battle.net traffic.

Check your Internet speed on the console or computer you are gaming from and see if it is what you are paying for. You may need to restart your router and modem, or you may need to call your internet company for help.

Investing the time in these changes now will help prevent Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 lag this fall.

Other Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 Beta Problems

While you cannot fix these, there are some other Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 beta problems that users are complaining about.

If it feels like it takes forever to get a kill, that is just the new normal. There is more hit power and there are armor options. Get used to it or provide feedback to Treyarch.

There is a list of other Black Ops 4 beta bugs and feedback from other players on this thread on Reddit.

5 Reasons to Buy Black Ops 4 & 3 Reasons To Wait

Buy If You Love The Look of Mutliplayer

We know a lot about the the Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 multiplayer experience from Treyarch, Vonderhaar and the last month of play. This is a very grounded game, but it is much faster than Call of Duty: WWII. Sliding is a very nice addition, and something I personally missed greatly during last year's Call of Duty game.

Treyarch continues to fine tune the weapons in multiplayer and new weapons are still coming, but overall you now have a very good idea of how the game plays and how it will play for the long run.

Specialists are back with loads of new abilities and you now have to heal your character in the game instead of it automatically happening. The Pick 10 system is back and so are perks, so you get a classic Black Ops gaming feel. Everything feels fast and fluid, like you expect from a Black Ops game.

With no story mode, Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 multiplayer is a bigger component and if that is what you love about the game it's a good reason to buy now and get started with your progress towards prestige.
