Galaxy S6 Oreo Update: 6 Reasons to Get Excited & 2 Not To

Potential for Missing Features

A potential Samsung Galaxy S6 Oreo update is exciting, but don't expect an update that's on par with the Galaxy S8's.

We haven't seen a Galaxy S6 Oreo update leak yet so it's impossible to say what will be on board exactly. Again, we'd expect some or all of Google's Oreo features and some upgrades on Samsung's end. That said, we wouldn't expect it to be as robust as the Galaxy S8's version of Oreo.

Samsung typically holds back software features from older devices due to hardware limitations or, perhaps, marketing purposes.

For instance, the Galaxy S6 missed out on the Always On Display feature found on devices like the Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S8.

The Galaxy S6 missed out on a few other notable Galaxy S7 Android Nougat features including Wide self-portrait with motion and a few camera modes including Food, Hyperlapse, and Selfie flash. The Galaxy S6 also failed to get Samsung's Video Enhancer mode and the Bixby personal assistant.

The Galaxy S7 might get Bixby home with Android Oreo, but the Galaxy S6 is a long shot.

There are ways to get some of these features on board a Galaxy S6, but not everyone has the time or skill to get that done.

Make sure you set proper expectations going forward.
