End of the Road for Some Devices?

Nothing is confirmed, but iOS 12.3 could be the last major update for older devices like the iPhone 5s.

WWDC 2019 kicks off in early June and it's there that we'll learn more about Apple's plans for iOS in 2019

We expect Apple to confirm and release the iOS 13 beta and it's then that we'll learn which devices are getting upgraded to iOS 13 this fall and which devices are staying put on iOS 12.

iOS 12 was a surprise for older models like the iPhone 5s, but it was a necessary release. iOS 11 was extremely problematic and iOS 12 fixed many of these performance issues. iOS 12 is still running great on our iPhone 5s.

Now that Apple's got that handled, there's a chance it leaves some older models behind on iOS 12.3 or whatever the last version of iOS 12 winds up being.

If support ends, it means you won't get any more bug fixes, security patches, or features. If that happens, you'll probably want to think about upgrading.
