iOS 8 Jailbreak Progress Starts

Published

on

There’s no iOS 8 jailbreak release in sight, but one of the top teams is already working on the iOS 8 jailbreak.

The iOS 8 release arrived yesterday and as users start to switch to the new version of Apple’s iPhone and iPad software the team behind the iOS 7.1.2 jailbreak issued a reminder that it is a good time to jailbreak before Apple stops signing the iOS 7.1.2 update.

At this time you can still downgrade from iOS 8 to iOS 7.1.2, but Apple will close this loophole very soon and anyone still running iOS 8 will be stuck until an iOS 8 jailbreak arrives

Work starts on an iOS 8 jailbreak release, but don't expect fast progress.

The team behind the iOS 7.1.2 jailbreak confirmed that they are already working on the iOS 8 jailbreak in a post on Weibo. This is a Chinese social network, where we often learn of leaks and other small tidbits of smartphone news. As we’ve seen on earlier jailbreaks, the small status updates that we’ll hear will come from social media.

The translated message was a final reminder for the iOS 7 jailbreak, but also served as notice they are working on the iOS 8 jailbreak. It reads,

“[Remind] iOS8 there one day time will be formally released, except when the estimated iPhone4 alia, the phone will not brush 7.1.2 firmware, and want to jailbreak, please pay close attention to the last time. iOS8, we have been on the road …”

In short, the we have been on the road part means that PanguTeam is already searching for security holes to find an iOS 8 jailbreak.

Although we typically see a teaser in the days following a new iOS release there is no one showing an iOS 8 proof of concept jailbreak just yet.

MuscleNerd is one of the most prominent jailbreak figures, offering up advice and small updates to users who jailbreak. On Wednesday he tweeted about the security issues Apple fixed, and the hope for more security holes.

Demand for an iOS 8 jailbreak will increase as some apps move to requiring iOS 8 with new updates. This may convince some users to leave and go to the official iOS 8 release, but for many the added options still don’t match the freedom of running a jailbroken iPhone.

A warning from the BigBoss repository, where many users download iOS 7 Cydia tweaks tells users how to upgrade to iOS 8 from a jailbroken device (not Over the Air) and warns users to be on the lookout for fake iOS 8 jailbreak releases that ask people to answer surveys before they get access to a download.

“For news on future new jailbreaks, you can follow well-known jailbreakers such as @evad3rs,@panguteam, and @musclenerd.”

The warning ends with where you can look for legitimate news on an iOS 8 or iPhone 6 jailbreak. The odds are good that we will not see a fast iOS 8 jailbreak release, so be ready to wait a few months.
