This is an extremely volatile part of the year for the smartphone industry. The next wave of new and interesting smartphones is on the way and they'll be on shelves in just a few weeks. Here's why that matters to you. 

First of all, Apple is poised to announce a set of new iPhones, probably in the usual month of September. The company is rumored to have three new iPhones in development including an iPhone 8, iPhone 7s, and iPhone 7s Plus. The iPhone 8 could be the company's most exciting phone in years. 

These launch events only happen once a year so it might be a good idea to wait and see what Apple has up its sleeve. If only to rule the new models out. 

There's another element to the iPhone launch and that's the potential for better deals on the current crop of iPhone models. 

We should see Apple and its retail partners react to the new iPhones with price drops on devices like the iPhone 7, iPhone 6s, and yes, the iPhone SE. 

With only a few weeks to go, consider holding out. If you do decide to buy the iPhone 5s, who knows, you might stumble upon a better deal in a few weeks as retailers look to get rid of their inventory.
