iPhone 6s Release Date: What to Expect Right Now

As we approach the month of September we’ve seen a flurry of new iPhone 6s release date details emerge. Armed with those new details, we want to take an updated look at what we think prospective buyers can expect from the iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s release date.

Over the past few weeks, we’ve heard and seen numerous rumors about Apple’s plans for the fall. We’ve heard about the new Apple TV 4. We’ve heard rumors about the company’s iOS 9 update for iPhone, iPad and iPod touch. We’ve heard about an iPad mini 4. And we’ve also heard several credible rumors about Apple’s new 2015 iPhone models.

iPhone rumors continue to point to the arrival of at least two new iPhones including a 4.7-inch iPhone 6s and a 5.5-inch iPhone 6s Plus. The two devices are expected to replace the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus, the two iPhone models that Apple launched in September of last year.

iPhone 6s rumors have been rampant and they’ve outlined everything from the potential iPhone 6s launch date to the iPhone 6s specs to the iPhone 6s release date. Apple hasn’t set anything in stone but thanks to this mountain of evidence, we have a pretty good idea about what to expect.

Recently, we’ve started to see iPhone 6s launch rumors start to firm up giving us a potential look at Apple’s plans for its next big iPhone release. With those in mind, here’s a look at a few things you should know about the iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus release date if you’re planning to pick up one of Apple’s next-gen iPhones.

iPhone 6s Launch Date

The iPhone 6s launch date is expected to take place during the week of September 7th. BuzzFeed claims that the specific iPhone 6s launch date will be September 9th, the same day that Apple used to launch the iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus last year. This date isn’t confirmed but it’s very likely at this point.

This is an important date to circle on the calendar if you’re looking to buy a new iPhone. One, because it’s where Apple will outline the iPhone 6s features and two, it will serve as the iPhone 6s release date announcement. Apple always gives consumers concrete iPhone release date information on stage during its launch events.

We’ll also likely get an iPhone 6s pre-order date, if there is one, and hear about which countries will get the iPhone 6s (and iPhone 6s Plus) first. Apple tends to use a staggered release date which sees some countries get it on the first day of availability and some weeks later.

If September 9th holds, and it should, we could see Apple issue media invites for the event in late August. Last year, the company sent out invites on August 28th.

iPhone 6s Release Date

With a September 9th release date all but confirmed, the iPhone 6s release date has narrowed to a few specific dates in September.

Apple’s iPhone release dates are extremely predictable and so it hasn’t been surprising to see iPhone 6s release date rumors hint at two dates in particular. First, some history.

Here is how Apple’s last three iPhone launches and releases breakdown. You’ll notice a pattern right away:

iPhone 6s release date theories point to two dates: September 18th and September 25th. iPhone 6s release date rumors also point to two dates: September 18th and September 25th. And while September 25th is certainly a possibility, September 18th is the better fit in Apple’s long-running pattern.

A recent iPhone 6s release rumor out of Germany suggests that the iPhone 6s is set to hit German stores and carriers on September 18th. Germany is typically among the first regions to get the iPhone so this could very well be the iPhone 6s’ first release date.

Remember what we said about a staggered release? September 18th might be the first release date for the iPhone 6s but it probably won’t be the only one.

A report from Dutch site TechTastic suggests that the iPhone 6s release date in the Netherlands could be September 25th, a week after the initial release date.

Several reports claim that Apple will start offering AppleCare through Best Buy ahead of the iPhone 6s launch. The service will apparently fire up on September 13th, just in time for an iPhone 6s release date (at Best Buy) in September.

iPhone 6s Pre-Orders

Apple didn’t offer iPhone 5s pre-orders but it did offer iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus pre-orders. We’ve heard anything specific about pre-orders yet though thanks to Apple’s release protocol, we have a pretty good idea about what to expect if the company does decide to offer them.

If Apple does offer iPhone 6s pre-orders, we’d expect them to start on Friday, September 11th. Apple typically puts a two day gap between the launch and the start of sales so this is the date we’d be preparing for if you’re looking to buy a brand new iPhone model.

One German carrier has already started taking early reservations for the next iPhone ahead of Apple’s launch date. We wouldn’t expect U.S. carriers to follow suit.

This is the same date that Apple used for the iPhone 6 launch. Unless disaster strikes, this is when you can expect Apple to talk about the iPhone 6s and the iPhone 6s Plus for the first time. You can also expect Apple to run down other products including iOS 9 and the new Apple TV.
