OnePlus 5T vs OnePlus 5: Worth the Upgrade?

Published

on

The OnePlus 5 is a popular phone with a lot to offer at an affordable price. However, there are a few areas where it can’t compete with some of the Android or iPhone competition. That’s where the new OnePlus 5T comes in, with upgrades like a bigger 6-inch display. These are impressive phones, and here’s how the two compare for those considering the upgrade.

Back in June, the OnePlus 5 hit store shelves. And while it’s a great phone, the screen and camera needed a little work. It doesn’t have a bezel-free display like the LG V30, Pixel 2 XL or Galaxy S8, and the camera isn’t quite as good.

However, the new and improved OnePlus 5T is official and coming November 21st, giving buyers a tough choice to make. Between the budget-friendly original, the newer model, or something else like the Pixel 2 XL. If you’re trying to decide which phone to buy, here’s how the two OnePlus 5 phones compare.

In this post, we’ll go over everything you need to know about each smartphone. From the screen sizes, specs, to what’s new and different. This will help those trying to decide on which phone to buy, if the OP5T is worth the upgrade, or if you should look elsewhere.

Trying to decide which one to buy is no easy task. With excellent big-screen phones readily available like the Galaxy S8 and Pixel 2 XL, you’ll have to look at other aspects to decide which one is right for you.

Those that already have and enjoy the OP5 likely won’t upgrade just for the bigger screen. However, for everyone else, this is a tough choice. It’s a flagship phone with nearly everything one would want, but for half the price of the competition. The Galaxy Note 8 has a lot to offer, but it’s also $950. OnePlus phones always cost far less, making it an enticing option here as 2017 comes to a close. For those wondering, the powerful new OnePlus 5T is only $499.

If you’re on the fence, here’s everything you need to know about the new OnePlus phone, and how it compares to the OnePlus 5. We break down everything about these two phones in the slideshow below.

OnePlus 5T vs OnePlus 5: Display

OnePlus 5T vs OnePlus 5: Display

If you're looking for a new phone one area that's important is the display. Some love big phones, while others want something that's easier to hold, use and carry.

The original OnePlus 5 from earlier this year delivers a decent 5.5-inch 1080p HD display. It's not too big, and not too small. However, the phone has big bezels around the screen, like an iPhone 8 Plus, so it's still pretty big.

It's no Galaxy S8 or iPhone X.

However, the new OnePlus 5T is and has a screen very similar to the latest from Samsung and Apple. Delivering a premium 6-inch 2160 x 1080p AMOLED display with small bezels. And while the iPhone X or latest Galaxy has smaller bezels, not by much. Meaning this phone is almost all screen on the front.

It's essentially the same size as the original, only with a much bigger screen. It's still 1080p, but the screen stretches to the sides and closer to the top and the bottom.

This means you're getting a bigger screen on a phone that's roughly the same size as phones with smaller screens. Keep in mind that it's using a new 2:1 (or 18:9) aspect ratio. Meaning it's not quite as wide and a little taller. Still, if the screen is important, the OnePlus 5T delivers the best screen this company has to offer.
