If you know you won't be able to pay top-dollar for a phone this year or are trying to stay on-budget in 2020, don't bother waiting at all.
While the OnePlus 8 will probably be a great phone at a wallet-friendly price around $600, we're not sure if it'll ever come to the United States. Instead, the company will focus on the OnePlus 8 Pro for US consumers, and it'll be expensive. Each year they've added a good $20 or $30 to the overall price, if not more, and we don't see that stopping anytime soon. Instead of $299, or even $479 pricing like we've seen in the past from OnePlus, the 7 Pro was almost as expensive as a Galaxy S10, and we think the 8 Pro will be even closer with the addition of a 120Hz screen and 5G connectivity.
- OnePlus 7 Pro with 6GB of RAM and 128GB storage - $669
- OnePlus 7 Pro with 8GB of RAM and 128GB storage - $699
- OnePlus 7 Pro 12GB RAM and 256GB - $749
That's what they wanted last year, and we have a feeling we'll see something like this for the OnePlus 8 family.
- OnePlus 8 Pro with 8GB of RAM and 128GB storage - $700
- OnePlus 8 Pro with 12GB of RAM and 128GB storage - $799
- OnePlus 8 Pro with 12GB of RAM and 256GB storage - $899
- or more, and maybe a 512GB model
And while that's still far less than the $999 asking price for the comparable Galaxy S20 and way less than the $1,199 of the Galaxy S20+, it's still expensive, and more than some people will want to spend. Hopefully the OnePlus 8 comes in lower than that, or the company manages to keep prices more affordable. My only concern is that the cheapest Galaxy S20 is $999, instead of $749 like in 2019, so OnePlus might have no real competition and reason to keep prices down.
Either way, the highest-end OnePlus 8 Pro will absolutely be cheaper than Samsung's phones, they always are. Decisions decisions.
