The Surface Pro doesn’t force you into using touch-centric apps with big inputs and less information on your screen. Just install the programs you already know and love.

Each Surface Pro has Windows 10 Pro installed. That operating system lets you install apps from the Microsoft Store and programs from the internet. For example, Gotta Be Mobile’s Edge vs Chrome comparison found Microsoft’s browser to be pretty terrible at loading some sites. On the iPad Pro, all browsers have the same errors because of iTunes App Store rules. Surface Pro users can replace the Edge web browser with Chrome and get around its shortcomings.

The Microsoft Store offers other essential apps. It has Netflix, Amazon Music, Facebook, Instagram and Spotify. These apps uninstall just as quickly as they install and don’t have tiny on-screen elements that are hard to tap with your finger.

The Windows Store certainly doesn’t have everything. YouTube, Gmail, Kindle and other Google apps are missing. But you can easily pin shortcuts to web versions of these apps to your Start Menu for quick access.
