Install macOS Monterey 12.7.4 If You're Having Issues

If your device has been struggling with bugs and/or performance issues on macOS Monterey 12.7.3, an older version of macOS Monterey, or macOS Big Sur, think about giving macOS Monterey 12.7.4 a shot.

Apple doesn't list any fixes in the update's release notes, but macOS Monterey 12.7.4 could fix performance issues like severe battery drain, busted Wi-Fi connectivity, UI lag, Bluetooth problems, random reboots, lockups and freezes, and various issues with first-party applications.

As for older macOS updates, macOS Monterey 12.5 fixed an issue in Safari where a tab may revert back to a previous page.

If you've been dealing with this problem, and you skipped the upgrade, you might want to install the latest version of macOS Monterey right now.

macOS Monterey 12.4 brought a fix for Apple's Studio Display while macOS Monterey 12.3.1 delivered two new bug fixes:

  • Fixed an issue where USB-C or Thunderbolt external display does not turn on when connected to Mac mini (2018) as a second display
  • Fixed an issue where Bluetooth devices, such as game controllers, may disconnect from your Mac after playing audio through some Beats headphones

macOS Monterey 12.3 tackled several lingering issues with the operating system. Here's the full list of bug fixes on board that firmware:

  • Fixed an issue where News widgets in Today View may not open articles when clicked
  • Fixed an issue where audio may sound distorted while watching video in the Apple TV app
  • Fixed an issue where some photos and videos may be unintentionally moved when organizing albums in Photos

macOS Monterey 12.2.1 fixed an issue for Intel-based Mac computers that may cause the battery to drain during sleep when connected to Bluetooth peripherals. If you've dealt with this problem, download the latest macOS Monterey firmware.

macOS Monterey 12.2 patched up an issue with Safari that leaked users browsing history and Google ID. The issue was first discovered by FingerprintJS.

If you missed macOS Monterey 12.1, it had six prominent bug fixes on board. The list included:

  • Fixed an issue where Desktop and Screen Saver may appear blank after selecting photos from the Photos library
  • Fixed an issue where the Trackpad could become unresponsive to taps or clicks
  • Fixed an issue where external displays may not charge some MacBook Pro and MacBook Air computers when connected using Thunderbolt or USB-C
  • Fixed an issue where HDR video playback on YouTube.com could cause 2021 MacBook Pro computers to panic
  • Fixed an issue where menu bar extras may be obscured by the camera housing on 2021 MacBook Pro computers
  • Fixed an issue where MagSafe may stop charging on 2021 16-inch MacBook Pro computers when lid is closed and system is shut down

If you're still running an older version of macOS Big Sur, you might get additional bug fixes with your upgrade to the newest macOS Monterey update.

Preview Version 11.0 (1033.4) freezes more than half the time I use it.
‘Report Issue to Apple’ gives me the spinning coloured wheel for about 30-45 s before it recovers.
I had to force quit the Finder just today. I was unable to re-launch the Finder. I had to manually power down, and then it took about 4-5 tries to get the MacBook Pro (16-inch, 2021) (Apple M1 Pro chip) to start again.
