Pre-Order if You're More Than Slightly Interested

If you're even remotely interested in the Xbox One X and if you're even slightly interested in getting it ahead of the holidays, for you or someone else, you'll probably want to put in a pre-order soon after they go live.

Despite the criticism Microsoft's getting for the price, we expect the Xbox One X to sell out at retailers around the world. And if you don't commit early you run the risk of not getting a console in 2017.

Putting in an Xbox One X pre-order doesn't bind you to that order. You should be able to cancel the pre-order any time, hassle-free.

Retailers like Best Buy might charge you to see if you have enough in your account but they won't charge you in full until the console ships in November.

If you think you might want it for yourself or as a gift for a loved one, put in an order. If you decide you don't want or need it anymore, cancel it and go on with your life.
