Don't Wait for a New Display

iPad Air 5 display rumors have repeatedly pointed to an upgrade to OLED. And while that might happen down the road, it probably won't happen in 2022.

According to Digitimes and Ming-Chi Kuo, the new iPad Air 5 will come with an upgraded display.

In March, Digitimes said that Apple's prepping a new 10.9-inch iPad with an OLED display. This lines up with a recent note from Kuo.

According to Kuo, Apple will indeed transition to using OLED displays on the iPad Air line with the new iPad Air 5.

A report from Korea's ETNews also states that Apple will use OLED display technology in "some" iPad models in 2022.

In a newer report, ETNews says Apple will release a 10.8-inch iPad model with an OLED display in 2022. The site also claims Apple is planning to launch an 11-inch OLED iPad and a 12.9-inch OLED iPad in 2023.

Korean publication Chosun claims Apple will partner with Samsung and LG for the OLED displays. The site says Apple will release an OLED-powered iPad sometime this year. It didn't call the device out by name.

While rumors have indeed been pointing to the use of OLED displays in 2022, we've also heard they could miss the iPad line in 2022. That seems more likely at this point.

Display Supply Chain Consultants (DSCC) believes Apple will enter the OLED tablet market in 2023 rather than 2022.

Korean publication TheElec says suppliers are working on an OLED panel for a 12.9-inch iPad model with better durability and brightness. This panel will reportedly enter production in 2023 or 2024.

In a newer report, the same publication says OLED-powered iPads are still on the table and they will likely debut sometime in 2024

Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo claims Apple's canceled plans to release an OLED iPad Air in 2022 which means the model that's rumored for 2022 will probably utilize an LCD display.

OLED displays offer some advantages over the traditional LCD screens. These include deeper blacks, improved brightness, and wider viewing angles.

Japanese site Mac Otakara also says Apple will keep a 10.9-inch display on the iPad Air.

Nothing is confirmed yet, but if you're interested in an iPad Air with an OLED display, you may have to wait until 2023 or later.
