The iPhone 5 and iPhone 5c are still competent phones. We've been using the iPhone 5 since release day and its performance continues to surprise us. iOS 10.3.3 runs quite well on our model.

That said, the dream will come to an end soon. Apple's iOS 11 update isn't coming to either device and that should be the catalyst for change. 

If you own an iPhone 5 or iPhone 5c you'll miss out on iOS 11's features. For some of you, that's not a big deal. However, the end of iOS support also means you'll miss out on bug fixes and important security updates that help to keep your device safe.
