iPhone 5s iOS 11.1.1 Update is Hit or Miss

If you're looking into buying the iPhone 5s be aware that iOS 11 is forcing some users to upgrade to a new device this year.

We've been testing the latest iOS 11 update on the iPhone 5s and we, like many others, have run into frustrating performance issues.

We haven't noticed any battery life issues, our connections are still strong and reliable, and our core apps run ok on the device. That said, we've noticed frequent interface lag, particularly when pulling up Control Center and Notifications.

It might not seem like a big deal, but if you use these features a lot like we do, it is.

We aren't the only ones running into trouble on iOS 11. We've spoken to several iPhone 5s users who tell us their device can't hold a charge. We've also seen reports of extreme UI lag, reboots, and just an overall drop in performance.

These issues are forcing some iPhone 5s users to make a change faster than they wanted to. Others will endure.

This is the risk you take when you buy a device that's more than four years old. It might seem fast at first, but over time you'll start to notice issues.

Apple will do its best to fix software bugs and issues, but the iPhone 5s' aging hardware will continue to be a problem in the days to come.

If you hate dealing with problems, you'll probably want to avoid the iPhone 5s and go with another iPhone model.

Apple's iOS 11 update is running much better on the iPhone SE, iPhone 6s, and iPhone 7.
