Fallout 76 Problems & Fixes

Fallout 76 went through an intense beta process, but problems have slipped into the final version of the game.

After a long wait, Bethesda’s finally launched the next installment in the long-running Fallout series. The beta is over and Fallout 76 is live on Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and Windows PC tonight.

The Fallout 76 beta squashed numerous bugs, but you can expect glitches, bugs, performance issues, and other problems to plague the final release. This is a huge game with a ton of moving parts and it’s still a work in progress.

The current list of Fallout 76 problems is short, but we expect the list to grow rapidly as more people populate Bethesda’s servers and jump into Appalachia.

While some Fallout 76 problems will require a fix from Bethesda, you should be able to fix others on your own. In this guide we’ll take you through the most common Fallout 76 issues and provide you with some potential fixes.

Is Fallout 76 Down?

If your game suddenly stops working there’s a chance the issue is related to Bethesda’s servers.

If you think there might be an outage, the first place to check is DownDetector. DownDetector will alert you to widespread outages. Check the comments from other players to see how widespread the issue is.

We also recommend looking at Bethesda’s Fallout account on Twitter for information about potential issues. You might also check Bethesda’s support account.

You can also check the company’s Fallout 76 forums for information about updates and game patches.

You might also want to check Xbox Live Status and PlayStation Network Service Status to see if the outage is related to Microsoft or Sony.

If you’re there isn’t a widespread or planned outage, try running an ethernet cord from your router to your console and see if your issues are related to your wireless connection.

If that doesn’t work, try rebooting your router. Unplug the router for a minute and plug it back in to see if that resolves the problem.

If that doesn’t work, try power cycling the console.

How to Fix Fallout 76 Download Problems

Fallout 76 requires a significant chunk of space on your internal storage. Xbox One users are looking at an initial 40+GB download.

If you’re trying to download Fallout 76 on your console and the download gets stuck or is taking way too long to finish, here are a few things to try.

If your download suddenly stops before 100% you’ll want to pause the download, wait a few seconds, and start the download again.If that doesn’t work, you can try canceling the download and starting the download again.

If you’re experiencing abnormally slow download speeds, try plugging an ethernet cable directly into your console. This could dramatically speed up the download, especially if the console is far away from your router.

If speeds don’t improve, try restarting your router. Unplug the power from your router, wait a minute or two, plug it back in, and try to download the files again.

Fallout 76 Installation Problems

Storage issues can sometimes prevent a game from properly installing on your console. If you’re having issues installing Fallout 76, you’ll want to check your storage.

If you’re playing the game on the Xbox One, go to the My Games and Apps section and check how much storage you’ve got on your internal and/or external storage. Again, you’ll need 40+GB of free space available in order to install the game on your hard drive.

If you’re positive you have enough free space on your storage, but Fallout 76  still won’t install properly, try hard resetting your console.

To do this you’ll want to press and hold onto your console’s power button until it shuts off. After that, power it back on and try the installation again.

How to Fix Fallout 76 Crashes

If you’re playing Fallout 76 on a Windows PC and the game is crashing and/or seeing a “Fallout 76 Has Stopped Working” error, make sure your computer meets the minimum requirements.

Minimum:

• Processor: Intel Core i5-6600k 3.5 GHz /AMD Ryzen 3 1300X 3.5 GHz or equivalent
• Memory: 8 GB RAM
• Graphics: NVIDIA GTX 780 3GB/AMD Radeon R9 285 2GB or equivalent
• Storage: 60 GB of free disk space

• OS: Windows 7/8.1/10 (64-bit versions)
• Processor: Intel Core i7-4790 3.6 GHz / AMD Ryzen 5 1500X 3.5 GHz
• Memory: 8 GB RAM
• Graphics: Nvidia GTX 970 4GB / AMD R9 290X 4GB
• Storage: 60 GB available space

If you meet the requirements, you might need to tone down your graphics in order for the game to run properly. You’ll also want to make sure your graphics card drivers are up to date.

If you’re using a GeForce graphics card, head over to NVIDIA’s site and check for the latest updates. If you’re using a Radeon processor, head to AMD’s site. You’ll also want to make sure you’re running the latest version of DirectX.

If it’s still not working properly, try running the game as an Administrator. Here’s how to do that:

• Go to C:\Program Files (x86)\Bethesda.net Launcher\games\Fallout76
• Find the Fallout 76 application.
• Right-click it and go into Properties.
• Click the Compatibility tab.
• Check the “Run this program as an administrator” box at the bottom and select “OK.”

Once you’ve done that, restart the Bethesda.net launcher and launch Fallout 76 again:

If you want to run the Bethesda.net launcher as Administrator, you’ll need to:

1. Go to C:\Program Files (x86)\Bethesda.net Launcher
2. Find the Bethesda.net application called “BethesdaNetLauncher”.
3. Right click it and go into Properties.
4. Click the Compatibility tab.
5. Check the “Run this program as an administrator” box at the bottom and select “OK.”

You can also try repairing the game via the Bethesda.net launcher.

How to Fix Fallout 76 Freezing Problems

If your game suddenly locks up, you’ll want to force close the game and/or restart your console.

How to Fix Fallout 76 Sound Problems

If your game’s sound suddenly cuts out, try minimizing to your dashboard and then going back in. If you still don’t hear anything, you’ll want to close the game and open it.

If you’re still having issues and you’re playing the game on a Windows PC, try updating your audio drivers. This could fix the issue for good.
