FIFA 20: Which Edition to Buy
EA offers three FIFA 20 editions that you can buy. This FIFA 20 pre-order guide will walk you through which edition you should buy, if you should buy on disk or digital and help you figure out if it is worth spending up to $100 on the Ultimate Edition or if you are better off going with the basic version for $59.99.
With the more expensive FIFA 20 editions you can play up to three days earlier and you get a lot of bonus items that will give you an edge in FIFA Ultimate Team. There are more than just these two bonuses, but they are the most important upgrades.
There are some FIFA 20 deals that will help you save, but you will need to wait for the biggest discounts. We’re on the look for discounts, but for now you can use EA Access to save 10% and play early.
Here’s how the three FIFA 20 editions stack up and what you need to know before you pre-order FIFA 20 for PS4, Xbox One or PC. The game is available on these consoles and a legacy edition is coming to the Nintendo Switch, but it lacks the new features.
The FIFA 20 release date is September 24th for the special editions and September 27th for the base game. With EA Access or Origin Access you can play five days earlier, likely on September 19th.
You can buy FIFA 20 at GameStop, Best Buy, Amazon and digitally through Microsoft, Sony and Origin.
FIFA 20 Editions Compared
If you just want to know how the three FIFA 20 editions compare in terms of price and bonuses, you can use this table below to see what you get.
The bonus packs come weekly for 12 weeks, so you need to log in and claim them each week to get the full benefits of the special FIFA 20 editions.
FIFA 20 Standard Edition
The FIFA 20 standard edition includes everything you need to play FIFA 20 and the new Volta mode.
You also get a collection of bonus items even with the standard edition of the game. This includes;
- Up to 3 FIFA 20 Ultimate Team Rare Gold Packs (1 Per Week For 3 Weeks)
- Choose one of five mid-version ICON Items for 5 FUT matches
- Special Edition FUT Kits
You miss out on playing early and you don’t get a lot of Ultimate Team items, but this is the best option for many gamers.
If you just want to play early, you’re better off getting a month of EA Access for $5, playing early and saving 10% on this edition digitally. That brings the price back to about $59.99.
Casual gamers should buy this version of FIFA 20, especially if they don’t play FUT.
You can buy FIFA 20 for $59.99 at GameStop, Best Buy, Amazon and digitally through Microsoft, Sony and Origin
FIFA 20 Champions Edition
The FIFA 20 Champions edition is the best choice for most FIFA Ultimate Team players. With this edition, you get a lot of extra items, but you don’t have to spend $100 on the game.
You also get to start playing three days early, which will help you start building your ultimate team. With this option you can also save 10% with EA Access and Origin Access. Here are the bonus items you get;
- Up To 12 FIFA 20 Ultimate Team Rare Gold Packs (1 Per Week For 12 Weeks)
- Choose one of five mid-version ICON Items for 5 FUT matches
- Special Edition FUT Kits
This is the best version for FUT players to buy. Yes, you get more items with the Ultimate Edition, but you have to spend $20 more. Would you spend $20 more on packs once you get the game? If not then go with this edition and keep the $20 in your pocket.
You can buy FIFA 20 for $79.99 at GameStop, Best Buy, Amazon and digitally through Microsoft, Sony and Origin.
FIFA 20 Ultimate Edition
This is the most expensive FIFA 20 edition and it comes with a lot of bonus items. You can play three days early and you can also save 10% when you buy with EA Access or Origin Access.
- Untradeable FUT 20 Ones To Watch Player Item
- Up To 24 FIFA 20 Ultimate Team Rare Gold Packs (2 Per Week For 12 Weeks)
- Choose one of five mid-version ICON Items for 5 FUT matches
- Special Edition FUT Kits
You can buy FIFA 20 Ultimate Edition for $99.99 at Microsoft, Sony and Origin.
FIFA 20 Disk or Digital
Right now the biggest deals are on the digital versions of FIFA 20, where you can save 10% with an EA Access subscription or Origin Access subscription. This makes it very tempting to buy FIFA 20 digitally. With a digital download you can pre-load so that you don’t have to install after you get home from the store and you also don’t have to swap disks when you play. All of these are great reasons to buy digitally.
Most people should be looking at buying FIFA 20 digitally. The only real reasons to buy FIFA 20 on disk at this point are if you like to bring the game to a friends house, you want to easily share or you plan to trade in FIFA 20 for $5 in 9 months.
Pre-Order If You Want the Champions Edition on Day One
Do you already know that you want the FIFA 20 Champions edition? This $79.99 edition is the highest tier you can get on a disk, and that means sometimes it isn't available at every store on day one. We've seen this issue at Best Buy with previous releases and it is hit or miss, but if you pre-order for delivery or in-store pickup you can generally avoid this problem. There won't be an overall shortage, but if you know you want a higher level FIFA 20 edition on disk, we recommend placing a pre-order instead of wandering in on day one. If you want the FIFA 20 Ultimate Edition for $99.99 you can only get this digitally, so you don't need to worry about stock issues, but you may still want to pre-order. You can pre-order FIFA 20 Champions for $79.99 at GameStop, Best Buy, Amazon and digitally through Microsoft, Sony and Origin.
