How to Close Apps on the Galaxy S8

Published

on

This quick guide will explain how to close running apps on the Galaxy S8 or Galaxy S8+ smartphone. If it’s running slow, an app is frozen or you’re having other problems you can easily shut them down.

You don’t need to close apps on the Galaxy S8 to save battery life, but it can help when something is draining the battery faster than it should be. Many do this simply to remove unnecessary clutter.

There are two different ways this can be done, and both require just hitting the recent apps icon near the home button. Check out our video then read on for the full instructions below.

How to Close Apps on the Galaxy S8

  • Tap the Recent Apps on-screen key, which is left of the home button (shown above)
  • Scroll up or down to see what’s running and open
  • Swipe from the left or right to close apps
  • This will clear the app and remove it from your screen

Swipe apps to clear them one at a time

It’s a good idea to do this on bigger apps like Facebook, Google Maps or battery intensive games. As they use up the most resources or battery. Some apps like web browsers will resume where you left off the next time it’s opened, while others will lose all progress or information.

How to Close All Running Apps on the Galaxy S8

Additionally, owners can choose to close all running apps at the same time. This is good to do right before bed, when walking into work, or to improve performance and start fresh.

To do this follow the same instructions above. Hit the recent apps button to the left of the home key, but this time select the big Close All button at the bottom of your screen. You’ll see an animation as all the apps disappear and shut down.

We’re all done. You’ve now successfully closed one, or all running apps on the Galaxy S8. We’d recommend leaving things like Phone, Messages (or text apps) and the browser open. Anything that is used frequently. Otherwise the phone has to re-open it each time, which can actually hurt battery life. Not improve it.

You shouldn’t have to do this often but there are times it just makes sense. Now you know how to keep your phone running fast and smooth, or to fix any problems that may occur with Android apps.

8 Best Galaxy S8+ Screen Protectors

WhiteStone Dome Glass UV Kit

First up is the popular Whitestone Dome Glass UV kit. These are relatively new kits that are excellent for keeping curved screens safe. As you probably know, most screen protectors fail on the curved Galaxy S8. You'll end up with dead spots on the screen or poor touchscreen responsiveness. That's not a problem with the WhiteStone Dome, nor is the installation process.

Here's how it works. This company sends you an entire installation kit for the Galaxy S8+. That way the screen protectors is perfectly aligned, and you'll never mess up. Then, you add a liquid for the installation, drop it on the easy installation tray, then CURE the liquid with a UV light they provide. Ensuring a tight fit, good seal, perfect installation, and no touchscreen sensitivity issues. It's pretty impressive, really. And, if you do break it, they sell replacement kits at a discount with no light.

If every other screen protector you've tried failed, try Whitestone's Dome kit.
