After two days with the the new phone we’ve quickly adapted to most of the iPhone X gestures and learned the new iPhone X button combinations that help you live without a home button. Here is what you need to know to use your iPhone X.

How Do You Go to the iPhone X Home Screen?

Apple removed the home button from the iPhone X, but you can use the new virtual home button to get to the home screen on iPhone X. The good news is it’s just as easy to go from an app to the iPhone X home screen. There is a new home gesture that you will need to learn how to us.

Tap on the bottom edge of the screen and drag your finger up on the screen slightly.

It’s kind of like a flick. You don’t want to hold your finger on the screen after dragging up, just flick up and lift your finger off the screen. Think of how you used to open Control Center on older iPhones. There is no need to be overly dramatic with this, a simple swipe up will do.

How Do You Multitask on the iPhone X?

Apple makes it pretty easy to go to the multitasking screen on your iPhone X. It’s pretty close to the home screen gesture, but instead of flicking and pulling your finger away, you will need to keep it on the screen.

Put your finger on the bottom edge of the iPhone X screen and swipe up. Hold your finger on the screen and you should see the multitasking screen appear.

You’ll find that over time you will fine tune just how much of this iPhone X gesture you need to accentuate and then you can make this happen faster. If you just want to switch to your last app, there is a quicker way.

How Do You Quickly Switch Apps on iPhone X?

You can switch between apps fast on the iPhone X without using the multitasking switcher. There are two gestures you can use to jump between apps without going to the multitasking drawer and it’s faster than anything you’ve done before.

Swipe left or right across the bottom of your iPhone screen to go the the app you used last. You can keep going to move between multiple apps.

You can also swipe up from the bottom left corner and then down to the bottom right, like a rainbow, to switch between your last used apps in a very similar manner.

How Do You Close Apps on iPhone X?

You can no longer flick to close apps on your iPhone X. You shouldn’t close apps to save battery life, since that doesn’t actually do anything positive, but if an app is frozen or acting up, you may still need to close it.

1. Swipe up and hold to open multitasking.
2. Tap and hold on an app.
3. Tap the red circle with a minus sign in it.

This will close that app. From there you can tap on an app to go to that app, or tap on the blank space to go to the home screen. A swipe up from the bottom of the screen will also go home.

How Do You Use Siri on the iPhone X?

You can’t hold the home button to use Siri on the new iPhone. Instead you need to hold the side button. It’s what used to be the power button. This is now a multi-use button that you can use to control a lot of options.

• Press and hold the side button to activate Siri on the iPhone X.
• You can also say, “Hey Siri” to use Siri on your new iPhone.

The iPhone X does not need plugged in to use Hey Siri, so you can use this anytime you need to use Siri on your new iPhone.

How Do You Use Control Center on iPhone X?

The iPhone X Control Center is only available in the upper right corner. Swiping down from any other top part of the screen activates the Notification Center and swiping up from the bottom of the screen only takes you to the Home Screen or Multitasking.

Swipe down from the upper right corner to use Control Center on the iPhone X. You can customize what you see in the Control Center, but you cannot change the way you activate it.

If you open the Control Center, you can check the iPhone X battery percentage.

How Do You Open the iPhone X Notification Center

The iPhone X Notification Center is activated by swiping down from the the middle or left side of the top of your iPhone X screen. Once you swipe down you have access to widgets and if you swipe all the way down you can customize the Notification Center.

How Do You Use Reachability on the iPhone X

Yes, Reachability is part of the iPhone X. You need to enable it in the settings and then you can use it just like you did on the iPhone 7 Plus.

1. Go to Settings
2. Tap on General
3. Tap on Accessibility
4. Tap on the toggle next to Reachability.

After you turn this on, you simply place your finger above the virtual home button area and swipe down. try it a few times to pick up the perfect placement. We like that this makes the Control Center easier to reach.

How Do You Turn iPhone X Off?

You need to press two buttons at the same time to turn the iPhone X off.

1. Press and hold the Volume down and the side button at the same time.
2. When the screen changes, swipe to the right to turn the iPhone X off.

How Do You Wake the iPhone X?

You can wake the iPhone X up in three different ways. This gives you a lot of options, and can make using Face ID easier.

• Click the side button once.
• Tap twice quickly on the screen.
• Pick the iPhone X up.

The last one you can disable if you don’t like the iPhone waking up when you pick it up.

Once you set up Apple Pay and add your cards, you simply double click the side button and then look at your iPhone X to unlock the Face ID.

You can use the Emergency SOS mode on the iPhone X by pressing and holding either volume button and the side button. This will either bring up the SOS options or start a countdown depending on your options.

To take a screenshot on the iPhone X, you need to quickly press the side button and volume up and release them. This will take a screenshot and you can tap on it to edit or swipe it away to get back to what you were doing.

If you turn on Accessibility shortcuts on the iPhone X, you can use a triple click of the iPhone X side button to activate it. Go to Settings -> General -> Accessibility to customize the actions.

How Do You Force Restart the iPhone X?

If the iPhone X freezes or locks up, you need to quickly press three buttons to hard reset or force restart the iPhone X.

1. Press Volume Up and let go.
2. Press Volume Down and let go.
3. Press and hold the side button until the Apple Logo appears
