Published

on

The Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain release date is getting closer and the Collector’s Edition is still extremely difficult to find. With that in mind, we take a look at everything buyers need to know about the Metal Gear Solid 5 Collector’s Edition release for PS4 and Xbox One.

As we push deeper into the summer, we’re getting close to some of the biggest video game releases of the year including Madden 16, FIFA 16, Call of Duty Black Ops 3, Fallout 4, and Konami’s Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain.

The Metal Gear Solid 5 release date for Xbox One, PS4, Xbox 360, PS3 and PC is set for September 1st which means that we’re now just a few days away from the latest installment in the long-running series. And with Hideo Kojima reportedly set to leave Konami later this year, there’s been a ton of interest in the his latest title.

While the regular version remains available, we have seen stock issues plague one version of Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain ahead of its release and today we want to take a look at the most important things buyers need to know about the elusive Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain Collector’s Edition.

Metal Gear Solid 5 Collector’s Edition Release Date

The first thing you need to know about the Metal Gear Solid Collector’s Edition is that it’s going to be released for PS4 and Xbox One on September 1st, the same day that Konami releases the standard version for the Xbox One, PS4, PS3, Xbox 360, and the Windows PC.

This means that those of you who successfully pre-ordered one should get your shipping notification sometime at the end of August. And it means that those of you who are still interested in the Collector’s Edition only have a few days to find one if you want it in time for the game’s highly anticipated release date.

What’s In the Metal Gear Solid 5 Collector’s Edition

Konami’s Metal Gear Solid 5 Collector’s Edition is a $99 bundle that tacks on some physical bonuses in addition to in-game content. If you pay the extra $50 (or more) for this bundle, here’s what you’ll get:

  • Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain Game
  • Collectible Steelbook Case
  • Exclusive Packaging
  • Map
  • Half Scale Replica of Snake’s Bionic Arm
  • Behind the Scenes Documentary and Trailers Blu-Ray
  • Additional Game Content:
  • Customizable ‘Venom Snake’ Emblem
  • Snake Costume X 4
  • Cardboard Box X 3
  • Weapon and Shield Set X 4
  • MGO Item X 4
  • XP Boost

It’s a pretty big haul for $99 and that’s why the game has been extremely difficult to find in the weeks leading up to the September 1st release date.

Metal Gear Solid 5 Collector’s Edition Stock Issues

Unfortunately, the Metal Gear Solid 5 Collector’s Edition for PS4 and Xbox One is extremely hard to find ahead of its release in September.

Retailers like Amazon, GameStop and Walmart are, as of right now, completely sold out of the game and it’s not clear if Konami will be making any more copies ahead of the release.

Amazon claims that the game is “Currently Unavailable” and says that it doesn’t “know when or if this item will be back in stock.” This doesn’t bode well for those trying to find the game before of September 1st.

How to Find a Metal Gear Solid 5 Collector’s Edition

Fortunately, there are some ways to acquire the Metal Gear Solid 5 Collector’s Edition ahead of its release date. The first option is to track it through a site like NowInStock. NowInStock tracks online inventory and it can alert you to stock when it becomes available, if it becomes available.

Over the past week or so, we’ve seen Walmart release sporadic Metal Gear Solid 5 Collector’s Edition stock. The latest release actually came this morning though it sold out very quickly. We recommend keeping an eye out there and setting up notifications so that you’re alerted whenever a retailer starts offering it again.

You can also buy the special edition through resellers like eBay and Craigslist though you’ll have to be willing to pay more than the $99 admission price. Resellers on eBay are currently offering the game in the $150 range though that price could fluctuate as we get closer and closer to the release.

Since we’re in the pre-release stage, make sure that the seller has all of the proper documentation before committing your money. We’re hopeful that there won’t be any scams but you should be vigilant just in case.

Metal Gear Solid 5 Collector’s Edition Strategy Guide

Finally, it’s worth mentioning that retailers are selling a Metal Gear Solid 5 Collector’s Edition Strategy Guide. This isn’t the bundle but it’s a collectors edition guide that will provide you with useful information if and when you decide to start playing Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain.

GameStop is selling it for $35 but Amazon is actually selling it for much cheaper, $22.24 for the hardcover and $14.02 for the paperback version. While this guide doesn’t come with a game, it does come with:

  • THE ULTIMATE GUIDE TO 100% COMPLETION: All missions, all side quests, all secrets, all collectibles, all Achievements and Trophies – at your fingertips!
  • TURNKEY WALKTHROUGH: An at-a-glance, map-based walkthrough steers you through the entire adventure supported by annotated hi-res screenshots.
  • ALL GAME SYSTEMS DECODED: Statistics, diagrams and analysis from our experts provide a comprehensive understanding of all game systems and features, including the Mother Base management metagame.
  • A WEALTH OF EXTRAS: Includes an extensive story recap, a poster covering the immense game area and much more!
  • EXCLUSIVE TO THE COLLECTOR’S EDITION GUIDE: A lithograph by Yoji Shinkawa, an art gallery, an exclusive hardcover and additional content.
  • DEVELOPMENT: Developed directly with Kojima Productions in Tokyo.
  • MAINTAINING TRADITION: From the same team that brought you the highly acclaimed guides to Metal Gear Solid, Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty, Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater, Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots and Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance.
  • QUALITY CONTROL: Carefully designed to avoid unnecessary story spoilers.

Like the game, it will be out September 1st.
