There is a new watchOS 6.2.8 update that includes support for digital car keys on your watch and new support for heart health features in select countries as well a security and bug fixes. There are some great reasons to install the watchOS 6.2.8 update on your watch today, but there are also important reasons not to install it yet.
Apple ties this update into a new iOS 13.6 update. This is a moderate update for most users who’ve been using watchOS 6 for months. If you are upgrading from watchOS 5, this is a major update, but for users on watchOS 6.2 or higher this is a small update.
The watchOS 6 update is big, so you need to plan on spending a decent amount of time on downloading and installing the update. If you are already watchOS 6 or watchOS 6.2.5, the watchOS 6.2.8 update is smaller and installs faster.
Unlike the iOS 13 update, you cannot downgrade from watchOS 6 or watchOS 6.2.8 to an older version. Once you install watchOS 6, you are stuck on it until Apple releases a new version — likely watchOS 7. New features include;
- Adds support for digital car keys for Apple Watch Series 5
- ECG app on Apple Watch Series 4 or later now available in Bahrain, Brazil, and South Africa
- Irregular heart rhythm notifications now available in Bahrain, Brazil, and South Africa
If you’re on the fence about installing watchOS 6.2.8 on your Apple Watch, this is what you need to know to help you decide. For some users, now is a perfect time to upgrade, but for others, it is better to wait and let others work out any bugs.
