7 Things to Know About the iPhone 7 iOS 12.4.1 Update

If you're moving up from iOS 12.3.1, your iOS 12.4.1 update brings iOS 12.4's changes which include Apple News upgrades, security patches, and a new way to migrate the data on your iPhone. If you're moving up from iOS 12.2, your iOS 12.4.1 update brings iOS 12.3's bug fixes and upgrades which include changes to the Apple TV app and AirPlay 2. If you're currently running iOS 12.1.4, your iOS 12.4.1 update comes with a long list of changes thanks to iOS 12.2. If you skipped iOS 12.2, its features are baked into your version of iOS 12.4.1. iOS 12.2 carried 40+ security patches, numerous bug fixes, and improvements to Apple News, AirPlay, Apple Music, Screen Time, and Safari. The iOS 12.1.4 update patched up an eavesdropping FaceTime bug that allowed you to hear sound coming from another person's phone before that person picked up. The company permanently disabled Group FaceTime on iOS 12.1, iOS 12.1.1, iOS 12.1.2, and iOS 12.1.3 which means the only way to use the feature going forward is via an upgrade to iOS 12.1.4/iOS 12.2/iOS 12.3/iOS 12.3.1/iOS 12.4/iOS 12.4.1. If you are moving your iPhone 7 or iPhone 7 Plus up from iOS 12.1.2, you get a few more bug fixes in your iOS 12.4.1 update. iOS 12.1.3's fixes are baked into your upgrade. iOS 12.1.3's fixes included a remedy for an issue in Messages that could impact scrolling through photos in the Details view and a fix for an issue where photos could have striped artifacts after being sent from the Share Sheet. If you're moving your iPhone 7 from iOS 11 to iOS 12.4.1, your upgrade is much bigger. This is because iOS 12.0's features (and the features from any other updates you skipped) are on board your update. Older iPhones like the iPhone 5s got a toned down version of iOS 12.
