Galaxy Note 5 Oreo Update: 6 Reasons to Get Excited & 2 Not To

Don't Expect the Full Version of Oreo

We'd expect a Galaxy Note 5 Oreo update to bring a nice set of changes, but don't expect it to be identical to the Oreo software Samsung's offering to Galaxy S8 users.

The Galaxy Note 5 Oreo update hasn't leaked out so it's impossible to say what's on board. Again, we'd expect some or all of Google's Oreo features and perhaps some features from Samsung's new UI.

That said, Samsung typically holds back software features from older devices due to hardware limitations or, as some will argue, marketing purposes.

For example, the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy Note 5 missed out on the Always On Display feature found on newer Galaxy devices.

It also missed out on a few other notable Android Nougat features including Samsung's Bixby personal assistant.

There are ways to get enable some of these features, but not everyone has the time or skill to install unofficial software.

Samsung's Oreo update is exciting, but make sure you set proper expectations. The Note 5 is old and it'll be lucky to see Android Oreo.
